Ok, I have a 2012 American Deluxe Telecaster, it has the 5 way super switch and the S-1 Switch with the N3 pickups. I know what the S-1 and the super switch do in theory. But I have no clue what they do in actuality for each position. i know in the 4 position, it's the hottest output, the 5 position is the lowest, and the 1 and 2 are close to the same. when in the 3 position, the s1 switch mutes the guitar. Is there a huge wiring problem with my tele? any input is greatly appreciated! I can post Pictures of the control cavity and pickup cavaties when I'm off work if it will help.

Did you buy this one used? That doesn't sound like stock American Deluxe Tele wiring to me. The stock wiring should be a 3-way switch (bridge pickup/both pickups in parallel/neck pickup) and pushing the S1 changes the middle position to both pickups in series (and the S1 doesn't affect the other two settings).

I did buy used. And its been very perplexing trying to find any information out about it. I know fender includes the super switch sometimes with the s1, thats what makes it a 'system'...but yea, probably not original, it all fits in the tele just fine tho and theres no extra-curricular routing that i can tell. pictures to come after 7 pm tonite

maybe they were planning ahead to do a nashville style 3 pickup tele or putting a humbucker somewhere when they put in the 5 way switch. is there anything I should look for in the control cavity to point me in the right direction to know whether its stock or not? at this point i'm pretty convinced its not stock since the s1 mutes in the middle position instead of changes it to series...this leads me to my next question...should i return to stock, or should I go ahead and put a humbucker in the neck or a strat pickup in the middle? with the super switch i could even add a piezo and make 10 different possible pickup combos with the s1 activating the piezo...or put a tv jones in the neck...that seems like a more suitable option.

So you want putting a humbucker in the neck and a piezo bridge or make a Nashville configuration with a N3 Strat pickup in the middle.

If you opt for the piezo option you can add a 3-way mini-toggle switch to use either the magnetic pickups and the piezo alone or blending both. Using the S1 switch to activate the Fishman Powerbridge is not an adequate solution, IMO.

You'll also need a special stereo Y cable to send the signal from the pickups to a separate amplifier or a PA mixing table.

I've never been a fan of the piezo bridge, so i'm for sure not doing that. I was just spit balling ideas haha. for now i'm going to take the tele back to its original state, standard 3 way switch. and a black/white/black pickguard, instead of the vintage white looking one. eventually i may put a tv jones in the neck with the tele bridge pickup staying original. that won't be soon though.

I hope I don't get stoned for posting this lol. But I traded the American deluxe telecaster for a 2010 prs Starla ltd.

Fender still reigns supreme! I like my 85 62 custom ri tele better still!

Yes it does! It's also very gretschy. The pickups are designed with filtertrons in mind

The pickguard and tunamatic stoptail make the Starla looking like an SG Standard, however the design is purely PRS.

This beast is capable to deliver a sublime array of thick humbucker and crisp single coil sounds! :D

Agreed! it sounds wonderful, bridge pickup is bright and the neck pickup is smooth...perfect in the middle position with a light overdrive...love it!...and the bigsby is awesome...if only it had a roller bridge!

The Starla also exists in a S2 version

http://prsguitars.com/s2starla/specs.php

There's no 5-way selector. Splitting and tapping can be done via a special push-pull pot on the master tone knob.

yes, but the S2 really only looks the same. The original Starla is 24 1/2" scale, the new one is 25". The pickups aren't the same either, just visually the same. and the body isn't the exact same, the carve is a little different and it uses a b50 rather than a b5. i believe the body is a little smaller on the s2 starla as well. I don't like that they used a different scale length and pickups and body size, but I can understand why they did. They could have kept the Starla's pedigree intact by just making another single cut body style with some vintage inspired appointments...That being said...I want one in white, seafoam green, and vintage cherry...because they look awesome and I'm sure they play and sound awesome.
