http://www.fender.com/guitars/telecaste ... mystic-red

i want to replace the chrome bridge that came with the above guitar with a black one. thought that would be simple. not so.

after trying one from gotoh and gfs, neither of which lined up with the holes correctly. thought i'd post here and ask fender where one can get a drop-in black bridge replacement.

i'm surprised the spacing specs are so off on these 3rd party after-market versions for the AmStnd tele.

anyone know where i can get a black bridge that actually fits without resorting to a luthier custom fitting.

Exactly what spacing is off? The GFS bridges give you measurements for everything. The mounting holes should be correct within manufacturing tolerances. However, the string spacing on the GFS bridge is 2 1/8" (vintage spacing). So is the Gotoh bridge. What is the string spacing of your bridge? Plus, the Gotoh bridge has four mounting holes and the GFS bridge has 3 and 2. What does your guitar have?

the bridge on the left is the one that came with it. its actually chrome, lighting was poor.

the bridge on the right is the GFS that arrived. the two holes up front line up, but then the three back ones and strings holes do not line up.

or am i doing this all wrong?

How do the dimensions of your stock bridge compare to those in the GFS picture?

http://store.guitarfetish.com/zoomify.a ... /C27_b.jpg

That GFS bridge does not appear to match the picture on the GFS web site. What does GFS have to say about this?

The black GFS you have look to be the "modern " on GFS picture as Bluesky show.

GFS "vintage" won't have same hole as your original .

Any of those two GFS are same as yours

using avg priced caliper's at mm setting for measuring...enough to show the diff's

GFS 35.5 center to center of back mount hole
Fender 32.5 center to center of back mount hole

GFS: 80.5 width
Fender: 79.2 width

GFS: 84.5 front center hole to back center hole
Fender: 78.0 front center hole to back center hole

GFS: 10.8 string holes spacing
Fender: 10.8 string holes spacing

as for what GFS says? i had emailed them a few times prior to purchase hoping to ensure it fits. their reply: "This is a modern style tele bridge installed on this guitar. Any modern tele bridge we sell should drop right on this guitar"

i sent them the same image i posted here yesterday. haven't heard back as of today.

i understand "vintage" won't work.

you are saying the "modern" (should) work?

maybe GFS has the correct "modern" drop-in and sent me an incorrect one?

GFS said it is a "drop-in" modern Bridge plate . Is the word drop-in mean ALL screw must be on same place too ? In the best world yes

Is it possible it is not a really drop -in for 2012 American Standard ? Or thye made a bad copy ?

GFS is going to RMA it.

they apologized and said "...don't know what to say it's just a different bridge. Fender makes changes as it likes".

at this point looks like if if i want a drop-in i'll get the bridge that came with it de-chromed and then glossed black. not in the mood to pay a luthier to fill in holes and re-drill just for a bridge. though that may be cheaper than de-chrome/re-paint.

appreciate all the comments and help. going to the woodshed an ease my mind

Hey, you're too late for that.
The time stamp on your post indicates 18:11.
That's WAY past 16:20.
