I've seen one or two posts in a Stratocaster forum, but nothing at all related to Telecasters, so here goes:

I have what I believe to be an 89 American in (I think) Midnight Wine that has the following stamped in the neck slot, in big red block letters:
FNL
OP-40.

Any ideas what that's all about?

other details, whether they may help or not, I don't know: semi-legible date stamps in the same neck slot are Aug 03, 1989 and Jul 2(?), 198(?). Some pencil scrawls in the slot as well, mostly unreadable: SL9N (I think... possibly just part of a bad signature by a builder.) Most of the other markings/stamps (there are a few) are very faded & undecipherable. The neck is a 1989 American maple, stamped HECTOR MONTES. serial# E8*****

Thanks for any information you may have about this neck slot marking, or anything of note you may be able to forward about this production run. I'd assumed Hector Montes was only dealing with Strats in 88/89 before moving over to the Custom Shop.... Love all these little details that come out when you strip a new purchase down to the bones.
