Has anyone done this? Doesn't seem like it needs too much wood taken out...

I believe your guitar is already routed for HSH.

If you feel uncomfortable remove the guard to check the slots.

You'll need to replace the pickguard if you go for an HSH configuration.

I took the guard off but I'm not sure if it will accommodate a HB as it currently is. Yeah I plan to ditch the middle and just got with dual HB.

Like I said in my initial post - it doesn't look like it needs much wood removed. the Neck slot seems smaller than the bridge..

You can see in this video that the routing isn't big enough...

This is not a modern player but a regular 1st generation plus with lace sensors!

The modern player is a totally different animal.

what are you referring to? The guitar in the Youtube video??

If so, it is a Modern Player Plus just like the one in the picture you posted just like the one I have... :|

Anyways, after seeing that video and having already removed the neck and middle pickups; the neck route is not big enough to accommodate a HB so I'll have to route it.

So you want to make an HSH configuration.

To split/tap the neck HB you'll need a second 2-way toggle or a push-pull pot for the master volume (since the guitar has already a toggle selector to split the bridge HB).

No, Did you watch the video???? The person converted their MP into a Plus with LS pickups.

And I'm taking out the middle pickup so its going to be two humbuckers. I ordered Push/Pull pots so I can split each of them.

I'm a woodworker by trade, but when it came to sticking a humbucker in the neck of one of my Strats, I left the router in the shop and grabbed a couple of good chisels. It's awful easy for a router to decide to take a leap sideways...

Yours is a Tele, but it's the same issue, turning a single-coil sized route into a hole that will accommodate a humbucker. And don't forget to drill a couple of relief holes for the height adjustment screws for the humbucker.

An original USA Tele Plus does have locking tuners and a hipshot tremsetter.

Apparently the guy who had posted the video on the tube is a huge Radiohead/Jonny Greenwood fan.

Nice conversion :P

Kinda sort of an American Telecaster HH

or a Mexican Blacktop

You'll need a replacement control plate without the 2-way toggle. The push-pull pots will make the toggle switch obsolete.

I don't mind the hole being left from the removal of the split toggle switch.
