I wanted to respond to the man who remembers John Rainey playing a butterscotch 50's tele. I'm from Dothan AL. and have known the family all of my life. JR and my dad divorced about the same time and became roommates They had played together off and on as long as i can remember. This was the early 80's. John Rainey did own a 56 telecaster with "of course" butterscotch finish and a white pick guard. His son Derrick and I learned on this guitar. In fact, he was gracious enough to let me take it home for weeks on end! it was even his idea. Having said this, I don't know when he obtained it. He worked at a local music store in Dothan. It was easier to come by instruments of this vintage in 83-84. It was also much less expensive. His son owns a early 80's les paul JR Had recently acquired and a 65 fender bassman amp, which i believe he had owned for a long time. i'm not sure what guitars his brother David has, but I know he does not own the 56 tele. Infact, Derrick said he ran across the guy who owned it and even had pics taken with the axe in hand. I was young and naive back then and i knew they still made telecasters that looked the same to me, but the the next time i picked up a tele, without even having formed a cord, I said " This is not the same guitar".....J.
