Found a 1978 Tele at my local Sam Ash, those clowns dont know it's a 78 even though it has the serial number on the headstock, S8...... They think it's a part guitar cause the previous owner put a HB on the bridge but everything else seems original. Price tag says $499. I'm tempted to go get it.

If it plays well I don't think you can really lose on it. Not playing the devils advocate or anything.

Are you really certain it's a 78 ? I don't think they would let a guitar of that vintage regardless of what mods were done to it, go for only $499.00. I mean that's Sam Ash you're talking about . Everybody who plays guitar knows who they are. Let's see some photos to back up your story.

"Tempted to go get it??"
If the neck is a '78 and in decent shape, the neck alone probably worth $2 grand to the right buyer...
