Hey there.

Now this goes in the dumb questions category, but I've been wondering if there is any difference between the 2010 and 2013 models of the special telecasters?

Just asking since when I looked up the guitar, I noticed mentions about the year they were made, but no real comparison. I doubt there are any significant ones, but thought I'd ask.

Edit: I'm guessing it's just the added vintage blonde color, but nothing changed hardware wise?

You are correct; there are no spec differences between a 2010 American Special and a 2013 American Special other than the new colors they added this year.

The American Special series deserves a Tele SH with a Dragster humbucker in the neck!

Thanks for the answers.

Since I made this thread, I might as well ask if you have any opinions on distortion or OD pedals for the tele?

I'm using a humble Laney cub 12r amp and have no pedals or anything of that sort to go with it.

How do you feel about Ibanez tube screamers or something from the Ibanez brand? As you can guess, I'm basically rocking on a budget, so I'm not looking to spend 500€ on some vintage fender pedal or whatever. I'm a beginner, so I don't really have any particular needs for an awesome pedal or amp, but I'd rather still buy something I don't have to replace too soon down the road. If it helps, I'm hoping to learn some classic rock type of stuff and mostly blues, funk and maybe fusion jazz thrown in and something with a country rock feel to it I suppose (never thought I'd say I feel like learning country music). Not a metal fan. I don't hate metal, but I just don't see myself ever playing it.

If anyone has any thoughts on the matter, I'd really appreciate any guidance you can give me.

Edit: Oh and I don't have the tele yet. Hopefully it'll arrive tomorrow, so I can see how it sounds through the Cub, but I have a CV60 strat and an Epiphone LP and while the amp sounds nice enough for my untrained ears, I get a feeling it sounds a little boxy or hollow if that makes any sense? I wouldn't mind getting more of a sharper sound out of it at times.

sometimes you can make a big improvement to an amp by replacing the speaker. worth doing some research first though.

Thought about that. Oh well, it's not like I'm in a rush or anything.

Oh, and the Tele did arrive today and the neck is amazingly comfortable. The jumbo frets seem to help a lot. All in all, I'm a happy camper.

In 2013 they changed the pickups. They now have custom shop pickups instead of those MIM texas specials they used to have.

With the addition of Custom Shop pickups the MSRP raised a bit.

Better pickups mean higher prices.

I missed that - I didn't realize they had changed to the CS Texas Specials.
