I am thinking of getting the Fender Vintage Hot Rod '52 Telecaster. I have an 2012 American Standard now. Will it be a noticeable upgrade?

Welcome to the forum. I have a '52 Hot Rod but I don't know that I would describe it as an "upgrade" when compared to an American Standard as you have asked. Both are fine instruments. With the Hot Rod, you are paying for desirable appointments such as vintage bridge and tuners, a U-shaped neck and a nitro-cell finish. Of course it also has a humbucker in the neck position. That might be considered an upgrade. Or maybe its a personal preference thing. The more I think about it, the more it seems like apples and oranges...

+1 to what Tom said

Both are fine instruments. The 52HR is certainly nice, but I wonder why the decision to use a Seymour Duncan Mini HB specifically. I'm sure it's a nice pickup, but the idea to use that pup seems to come from totally out of nowhere. What's the deal with the stock Dimarzio on the HR57?

It gives me the feeling that the VHR line was taylored to one, or a couple of Fender employees preferences, as there was certainly no R&D that went into some of their out-in-left-field specs. 99% of people would have chosen different pickups to swap on a stock Fender, so I am unsure of how the pickups that go into VHR guitars may be deemed an 'upgrade'.
