I'm still really shocked by how awesome my Squier CV50 BSB is. I keep telling myself I'll get a American Standard but than hold back and reminded of how much I like the Squier. Anyone else choose a Classic Vibe over an American Standard?

I've tried out the 50's Classic Vibe Tele at Guitar Center and was blown away at how great it sounded . IMO, it's just as good as a MIM or MIA Standard. One of these days I hope to own one.

i like my guitars 'non standard', be it from the factory or modded afterwards. simply from that point of view an american std doesnt interest me. same as a mexican std doesnt. at the very minimum, for me, to make me buy a std strat or tele its got to have some funky paintjob going on.

also for this reason, plus the money saving, i would rather own about 95% of fender japans catalogue before buying an american standard.

but, as mentioned above, the components of a US std will always be better than a squier. fortunately theres no cost difference between shaping a neck badly and shaping a neck well, which means the vast majority of squiers/fenders at least feel really nice to play.

which in turn is why so many people find a squier they love the feel of, then decide to put better components in it/on it.

I do some test drive at home with a Classic vibe and my American standard . This last one is better. But for the price Classic vibe is a deal.

I prefer the rolled frets of the Am Standards, but whatever guitar that *you* like (feel and sound and playability), is the guitar that you should go with.

I went through 3 Telecasters (Blacktop, Baja, '72 Custom MIM) before I finally bought the Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster '50s.

I bought the Blacktop not really knowing what I wanted and I learned pretty quickly that I wanted single coils.

The '72 Custom MIM was the same as above and I didn't like the vintage radius.

I didn't like the thick neck on the Baja and the pickups sounded too bright for me.

My major concern with the American Standard is that I won't like the pickups or the bridge. The neck I love. If they had a American Standard neck on a '52 Vintage Reissue that would be my perfect guitar.

The main reason I like the Classic Vibe Telecaster is because the neck is modern radius but still has the vintage 3-saddle bridge. I also love the Pine body.

Have both and pretty much agree. I like the pickups in both and find they complement each other nicely (AS has a hotter more modern tone, CV is more classic vintage tone). The AS is probably better quality but the CV is the one I grab most often at home.

I couldn't afford an American Standard, but even if I could, I couldn't justify the price hike over the CV 50's BSB.
This is a great Guitar at a great price. Have had the pickguard off and the hidden finish is immaculate.
This is a beautiful looking, beautifully built Guitar with great tones from both pick-ups.

My American Tele is the best of my Telecasters. Tried a Classic Vibe and was not impressed.

When I bought my American Special about 5 years ago, i tried a CV and the quality wasn't as good. They have improved immensely since then so have added one to my collection.

I have a 1990 American Standard Strat Plus which I have had since new. I just purchased a MiM SilverBurst Tele and while the Strat is truly a fine piece of musical instrument art. The Tele is an amazing players guitar as well, I find they complement each other perfectly.

What this purchase has done for me is prove that while the American made Fender is worth owning, there is no reason not to own several MiM fiddles as well.

One of these days I will probably switch over to the Tele set of Lace Sensors but that is only cause I love them the set on my Strat so much.

I already have GAS for a nice MiM Jaguar.

I am really glad I found this thread. Played a CV Tele at my local music store and liked it.

I have an assortment of instruments, but only played bass in a band.

The Classic Vibe is high on my want list now. Thanks guys. :D

I have a CV 50s Tele that I picked up super cheap at a pawn shop. I love it! It has real nice pups, nice neck... I play that guitar a lot and it's one of my favorites even though I have others that I paid WAY more money for.

IMO, the pups on the CV are better than the MIM standard. I also have a Deluxe Nashville Tele with the Tex Mex pups that I really like and the CVs compare very nicely.

Now if money were no object, I wouldn't say I would choose the CV over an Am Standard, but dollar for dollar, the CV is tough to beat. I think the CV Tele is the best value Tele you can buy - bar none.
