I've had a mim Tele since I was in college and learning how to play the guitar. I lucked out and got a good one, the neck is perfect and the body is nice and resonate. I've played it for years bone stock and it sounded alright. I toyed with buying a better model, and I've played just about everything out there, and shy of my room mate's '58 AMVRI, I haven't found anything that felt as good as my ol tele. So, I bit the bullet last week and ordered up a 3 saddle bridge, new tuners, a CS Texas Tele bridge pickup, and a twisted tele neck pickup. I had no idea that this guitar could sound so good. I left all the other electronics alone, but I'm wondering if it's worth it to completely reinvent this git fiddle. New pots, cap, and a 4 way switch? Opinions are appreciated.

What you bought will not only improve the sound of your MIM Tele, but will also save you money as far as buying a new one is concerned. So yeah, I'd say it's worth modding it to your personal specs. Just the pickups alone will improve the sound of the guitar and the 3 saddle bridge will give it that nice retro look as well. I don't see any reason though to swap out the pots or the pup switch.

The new pickups are amazing. I'm hugely impressed, and I love the look of the three saddle bridge. So standard pots and such are probably fine? I'm perfectly content with not needing to completely rewire this beast. I have yet to do a side by side comparison with the '58, but my tele's already got my room mate wondering if he made the right choice...

Just modded my MIM Tele. Added locking tuners, T/S PUPs, Acme 4 way pre-wire switch plate and a vintage 3 saddle Callaham bridge. The guitar completely changed. Totaly awesome sound. Try the pre-wired switches. If your going to swap PUPs, your going to be cutting and soldering. Might as well upgrade the pots, caps and jack. It all comes pre-assembled with great wiring diagrams. All you have to do is solder the PUPs to the switch plate. It was very easy to do.
