Hi Guys

I know only I can answer this but I need some advice

I own a USA American Deluxe Telecaster and Princeton Reissue amp.

Love the amp and love playing the guitar (Neck etc) however the thoughts of the N3's not being true single coils is eating away at me. I know I should have known at the time but the feel of the guitar got the better of me (mentioned on here before). However I can get some lovely tones out the N3s and I don't really want to mod it.

I live in a flat meaning I rarely get above 3 on the amp and although it sounds LOVELY I do have an Vox AC4TV which I can get some blusy tones at lower levels. I just feel that I'm not getting the most out of the princeton.

I saw a second hand Fender Custom Shop 52 NOS at a UK dealer for £1799 (2011 or 2012 the certificate was not available). Its in mint condition and I do not live too far from the shop. I "theoretically" asked how much I would get for the amp and guitar and was quoted between £1100 - £1200 which I figure is not too bad for a guitar shop trade in.

Now I have some birthday money and could probably find the extra for the guitar but obviously my amp would be history meaning if I do finally get into a jamming situation I might suffer and need to spend more £££.

The custom shop model has gold hardware which I'm not too pleased about but its growing on me and a more modern radius neck/frets for a 52. The specs are:

52 TELE
NOS
9.5 RADIUS
MEDIUM JUMBO
ASH BODY
GOLD HARDWARE
BLACK GUARD
AA FLAME MAPLE NECK
MID 60S OVAL 'C' PROFILE
TINTED NECK LACQUER
SATIN FINISH TO BACK OF NECK
ABBY H/W HOT NOCASTER P/UPS
MODERN WIRING
BRASS COMPENSATED SADDLES
CENTRE POCKET TWEED CASE

My wife thinks I'm mad and quite frankly I do too but when the GAS gets you the GAS gets you :D

Of course the other option is to save and get a custom shop model in a year or so and take my time on it playing the hell out of all the ones I can find. Expanding my small herd of guitars does appeal to me too.

I might need to check into GAS rehab.

So what would you guys do??

Tom

I agree with your wife. You've a fine guitar that nothing a pickup swap and amp trade-in couldn't fix, but you want to sell the lot, for Custom bling. How 'true' is gold hardware?

Buying a pedigree guitar (which you're not 100% happy with about the features) at a pedigree price without the pedigree papers while at the same time, getting financially raped on a trade in value of your equipment? No! Contrary to popular belief, our wives DO have our best interests at heart.

Reconsider changing the pickups in your guitar as it is a reversible mod and/or keep looking for a proper pedigree which your are 100% happy with as your finances allow.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Hi Guys

Thank you for the responses and I think you are dead right. I almost deleted the thread before anyone posted because I thought it wasn't the best idea in the world.

You have all helped and my wife will be thankful! She might even let me back in the house :D

Hello, and yes our wifes help us not spending everything on music.
you get so implusive when you see other great instrument. you want them all!!!!

I do own a Deluxe Tele and I love her.. However when she arrived and I start playing her,
it convinced me that I need to keep my American Special Telecaster equipped with
Texas Special Pickups. Those uncompressed Pickup and the maple neck are just serving me perfectly for all my bluesy needs.
In conclusion, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR DELUXE.. Leave her as she is.
Get the best out of her, put some money aside and get yourself an American Special.
They are not expensive and will deliver most of your "Vintage" needs.

Hi Sighter

Thank you for this response its really helpful. I think I will definitely keep hold of the deluxe, I've managed to get some real nice tones out of it since posting this and the neck/finish really makes me smile.

I have a MIM standard strat which I installed fenders 57/62 pickups in so although its not a telecaster I can still get some vintage tones should I need them.

I think I'll take a close look at the American Special though, I've not had too much experience with those guitars.

Thanks again for responding.

Tom
