So, I've been a Strat lover for years, have a '99 American Standard Strat, and I've been playing it through a Marshall AVT150 combo amp, and LOVE the tone I can get out of it.

Here in a week, I'm getting my Nashville Telecaster in, and I was just wondering, will the difference in Strat and Tele tones make that much of a difference to the amp? Do I need another amp for my tele? What would you guys suggest for a good Tele amp, for country and blues. My Strat/Marshall setup is really good for some country, and classic rock, but I'm looking for another tone for my bands gigs. It doesn't necessarily need to be a Fender amp, just any suggestions for a good country sounding tele/amp combo.

I think you'll be pretty happy with the difference a tele can make, particularly the Nashville model, as it will give you that strat sound that you might be looking for as you make the transition. The only thing I might suggest is that you consider a mod that would allow you to use just the neck and bridge pickups so you can also get that middle position tele tone (great for country rhythm sounds). There are a number of ways to do it and the best part is that not only do you wind up with the neck/bridge combo, but you also gain the option of all three pickups. In effect giving you even more options than a strat. The only drawback is that switching can get tricky when trying to change tones in mid song. These are great guitars though and whether you do or don't decide to add the "super strat" style switching, you should notice quite a difference in your sound. If you need another amp is up to you. Far be it from me to discourage anyone from picking up more gear.

I've actually considered (and posted in an earlier thread) how I would get the neck bridge combo out of the Nashville Tele.

I'm note sure if I want a push-pull volume knob, or a push button, to activate my mod, or possibly even a push-button in the top of the volume, like on some the strats I've seen that have the extra pickup selections.

You may have to adjust the settings on the amp to get a tone you like, but it will be in there.

I'm a little worried about that, because that's not something I like to do in a live setting. I would rather just be able to swap guitars, and go. I don't like having to walk over to the amp, fiddle with this to get the tone I need, and then step back to my place behind my wah and volume. I'd be just as happy with two amps so when I grab my tele, I've got my tele amp, and when I pick up my Strat, I've got my strat amp.

I just dread looking for another AVT150 if it comes down to that.
