Hello Everyone,

Can someone please help me identify? I bought this at a local pawn shop 5/4/13. The neck looked gorgeous and there was a Custom marking on the back of the neck. However there is no serial #. I took to my local shop and was told the neck is not by the custom shop. They said the logo appeared to be applied over the lacquer on the front however on the back the Custom logo appears to be under the lacquer.

I was told I had in parts the value of the guitar if I put it together. 339.00 plus tax. My heart sank.

I took it apart and the markings on the neck look legit to me. I just don’t know. I have uploaded some pictures and would appreciate any information as to whether I do indeed have a Custom neck on a Fender or Squire body. Also the metal that is holding the switch says Made in USA.

Thank you.

Hi,
...And im not really sure how concerned you should be, without of course, knowing the amount of hard currency that you parted with for the Tele...

I had a quick scan over the photos you posted....

Firstly, all the parts to this instrument appear to be genuine Fender....

The body and electrics look to be genuine Fender.
The pots look to be CTS and the toggle switch looks CRL(and with made in USA from your post...). The pickup routing looks good. I cant see the input jack which is a shame, but im sure by probability, it is appropriate to the whole 50's thing going on and is the 'cup & retainer' version.
The bridge plate and the saddles however for some reason look 'after sales'. (at least not 'custom shop').

Then moving on to the neck....
My first thought of the neck is that it has been purchased separately(along with all the other bits).... and may have come from a FCS model. The birds-eye maple would be consistent with many FCS builds in the past and the 'stamp' on the back of the heal in red saying 'Fender Custom Shop'(under lacquer). That would be a much higher level of forgery (if it is one!!!) than the majority of the poorly applied decals that sometimes enter these forums...
Are you SURE the Custom Shop logo on the back of the headstock is on top of the lacquer?????
And the one on the front, (Fender Telecaster) looks as it should, again given the 'whole 50's thing'...

My bet is is came from a supplier like 'The Stratosphere' on Ebay who sell genuine parts for folks to assemble themselves....

Im sure they'll be some fella's along soon that would be able to identify the parts exactly, giving model numbers etc...
But for now I would say.... Not so fast!!!!....

It is highly likely it is a 'parts-caster' (without a serial No.) but it doesn't look like a cheap one!!!! At the end of the day.... If you like the way it feels and sounds....and looks....
I guess it really all counts on the money aspect......

If you paid Custom Shop money.....hmmmmm.....
...but if not..... you may have done OK....!!!!

Seeing the back of the Pickups etc.... may help further!!!

Hope some of this helps and let us know further details....
1. pics of back of pick-ups
2. if your sure the Custom Shop logo is under lacquer?...

All the Best.

- all of this is only my very humble opinion!...

Just to make it easier to look at the pics...

The neck looks legit! Oscar Pallares, who's stamp is on the heel, builds necks for the CS.
The guitar's serial number is the 5 digit number on the bridge plate.
Is the neck and body original to this particular guitar? Hard to tell from just pics...and I would suggest you contact consumerrelations@fender.com with the serial number and see if their specs matches what you've got there.

Looks like it is a classy looking guitar when it is assembled!

What about this ↓ red stamp? Over or under?

Hello,

The Fender logo on the front seems to be over the finish,(it feels a bit raised), its hard to tell though, the red stamp and custom logo under tuners is definately under the laquer.

Take a flashlight and a magnifying glass and look closely at the edges of the decal. Try shining the light at several different angles to see if there is finish over the decal edges or not. It's possible the decal is still under the finish even though it feels raised.

Ahhhh.... Fine info indeed!!!!....

..and no probs...
...and I now get that its the front decal that feels raised!!! ... that was the one i thought was no question 'real'....
But I guess we can all agree the necks real with the confirmation of Oscar Pallares.

The only question being if it all started out together...Let us know. :D
So, Im guessing a nice trip back to your local store (with head held high!)....

..and a big +1 on a great looking Tele (when assembled..)...or not....haha..

Glad to hear it wasn't so bad after all...

Hello

Here is an update. I sent the pictures to Fender Customer Relations. Quoting email reply. "It looks like you have something special on your hands here!" The gentleman requested more pictures. I have also uploaded more to photobucket and can be seen from the link a few posts up.

Once I get more info I will update again.

Thanks

For a C/S team built guitar that price seems very reasonable to me.

2 cents
