I want to buy a new guitar ( I presently own a Cort made in Korea...) and I don't have a lot of money...

What do you think about the Fender Telecaster Standard (MIM - 599.99$) and the Fender Classic Player Baja Telecaster (MIM too) ?

My advice is that if you are thinking about buying mexican, don't. No matter what people say, you can get a Squier model for a fraction of the price and there is little real difference. Then you could spend the extra money on putting some really great pick ups in it and have it set up really well and it will be tremendously better than a mexican model guitar.

Otherwise if you can scrape together a few more dollars, go for the Highway One Tele, that is a really great guit for the money.

I'd have to disagree here. The workmanship that is put into the squier line just is not nearly as good as the work put into the MIMs. By the time you replace all the parts that need to (pups, pots, switches, wiring, nut and maybe the saddles and tuners) you'll end up paying the same as you would an mim. Despite what i've heard about the mim pickups being subpar, i have no complaints. They sound great the the Classic Player Baja is one of my favorite teles. If you have the cash, go for the baja. If not and you can afford a standard mim, go for it. you won't regret it. I wouldn't order one offline just since each guitar plays a little different and if you find one you love in a store, go for it. might get it for cheaper too. Good luck!

Hello Phid3l,

My mex tele has been serving me
well for over a decade.

Would a squier? Maybe.

Baja teles are pretty cool.

Play 'em all, get the one you like.

Cheers.

MIM Fenders are just fine, offering most of the American feel and look with a better price.
If you want to upgrage MIM, go with USA pickups on your MIM guitar.
I work in a music shop in the UK and I own and play (professionally) MIM and USA Fender nstruments. There are differences, but a tweak of the amp (Twin or Hot Rod Dlx), and the sound is all there, origin of instrument notwithstanding.

I definitely agree with your comments on the Fender MIM's. I had a Fender American Standard Strat that I sold about a year ago to acquire some extra funds for another instrument I wanted at the time... After about 6 months, I realized I couldn't be without a Strat so I bought a new MIM Strat, just to fill the void. If you were to blindfold me and offer me $1,000 bucks to tell you which one was which, the Am. or the MIM, I would not be able to do it! My MIM Stat is fantastic in every area from sound to feel to playability to quality. I would recommend a MIM Tele w/o a secon thought!
