So I'm currently trying to sell my Telecaster. The only problem: There is no country of origin, identifiable serial number on the neck/headstock, or any clues that would give me an idea of what to value this guitar at. The only evidence I have to prove this is a Fender is the poorly applied logo on the headstock, the "Fender Pat Pend 39780" stamp on the bridge and the accurate dimensions of the neck/body. The body seems to be ash, and the pick ups also seem to be Fender.

After taking it apart, I did notice a serial number where the neck and body meet "X54161" as well as one on the neck "0053779-980." Could this be a "Franken-Fender" that I've heard a lot about, or am I sitting on an American worth more than I thought? Or am I just delusional with a kind of nice guitar worth not a lot? Any help or direction would be much appreciated!

IMO it is a '52 reissue Telecaster . Like original 52 Telecaster , Leo did not write "made in USA "

I have the same in buterscotch.

Where this guitar come from ? Where you buy it ? Long time ago ? This is a path to know

It is a real Fender for sure.

I don't think it's a '52 reissue. Body is the wrong colour for that, and it also has Phillips screws, where the '52 has slot head screws. The neck is dated Dec 2000, I think, and the body also has a date of Jan...something I can't quite read.
The serial number on the bridge plate seems to indicate it comes from Fullerton in 1959, so it's a bit of an odd one!

Thanks for your input guys! I've only had her for a few months now, but the guy I bought it off of has had it for at least 10 years. He brings a lot of old, used gear into my dad's store for consignment and was convinced that it's an American. I've contacted him for more info and am waiting to hear back. As for the dates, the neck is from January '01 as the body is December '00.

Scratch that, the neck is from DEC '00, body is from JAN '01.

Do you mean that the logo is applied on top of the lacquer on the headstock? If so the neck could be a American 52 RI or similar. The body however is not correct for this, my guess it's a parts guitar.

Interesting....

To me it looks like a mexican Tele.
The reason would be, I have seen many mexican instruments lately that previous owners have sanded the 'Made In Mexico' for ultimately silly reasons and then made such a hash of it that they have gone over half the serial number as well....so they decided to keep going and take the rest of it off...
Usually you would be able to see the scaring that the idiot left but its possible that with enough time passing the scarring will have worn out.

F. Perez stamp on the heel of the neck may be telling also but not definitive. Maybe worth running a check with Fender on the model number below the bar code( but its also possible that the body and neck didnt start of life together but they both look genuine...
If you take the scratchplate off, there is usually a product code that could be traced. Looks to be swamp ash and of Fender quality...

I vote its a Mexican model ..... and no thats not a shameful thing....

Hi, did you have any joy identifying your tele? I've just bought a partscaster with a 2 tone sunburst body with exactly the same codes etc in the neck pocket as yours. It is also drilled for a 52 style 5 screw pickguard?
