I hate to start off my posting on this forum with an "is it real" question but I found an ad on craigslist for what appears to be a telecaster. The ad mentions trade or make an offer which tells me that it probably is not a counterfeiter trying to make a buck.

Upon texting for more pics he tells me that he bought it at an estate sale, it looks old, but that's about all he knows about it. He took it to have it restrung yesterday and they pulled the neck off and found some numbers. The shop is supposed to get with him when they figure out what he's got.

I made a low-ball offer and he's agreed to try and meet me which tells me that he may truly not know much about guitars. It looks like whoever owned this guitar painted the headstock and knobs on it at some point. That's a red flag. But it looks legit. The shop said that if it wasn't a Tele it was a good copy.

The knobs look like flat tops instead of rounded knock-offs. The fret board has the right number of frets ending at 22 I believe. I just can't be sure. He's supposed to bring it by my office today for me to look it over. What do ya'll think?

Here's a link to the same topic I posted in the telecaster forum offsite.

TDPRI has some excellent comments. You really need better photos and need to see what is under the pickguard and control plate. Otherwise, there is no telling what you have.
