The best bet is always to rely on products made (or at least recommended) by the guitar manufacturer, in this case Fender Guitar Care products...

I like Dunlop Formula No 65 polish/cleaner. I usually only use that if I get beer or something on a guitar at a gig. Probably 90% of the time, I just use a soft cotton cloth, and some elbow grease.

I use Martin Guitar Polish. I admit that my use of this product stems from habit more than anything else. At one time, long long ago, there was nothing else as good as Martin Polish but things have changed. Martin changed their product and the other companies stepped up their games considerably. Martin, Fender, Ernie Ball .... there's lots of companies making a decent product nowadays.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Clean your guitar? As far as waxing goes, any pure carnuba wax seems to work very well. As for cleaning beer? Windex with a polishing cloth followed by waxing. If I have a rosewood fingerboard I use Guitar Honey. Maple, I just Windex and go! I always keep polishing cloth in different states of new for different jobs but new is always best for fine finial shine finishes.

Cool beans.

I've been told my many that the guitar cleaning products are a scam and you can just use at-home stuff for the same effect.

But I'd trust you veterans over anyone I know.

I'll take a look into some of these products and see how it works!

Thanks!
Nick

That's likely true... but do you want to take a chance?

$8-$10 for an instrument specific cleaner is cheap peace of mind in my book !

cheers!

Ronsonol lighter fluid. I'm not joking. Shifts every bit of finger grime and grease, never had it damage a guitar finish. Anything else is just a waste of money.

Yeah...but what if he smokes? I would personally stay away from anything flammable  Especially when there are so many cheap guitar products available that work so well.

Now after you clean your guitar your favorite way, take your polishing cloth and spray a very light mist of Mother's Showtime (car detailer) on it and lightly wipe. You won't believe it!
