I am building my own tele, but I am undecided on what type of wood to use, I would like to buy locally but that only leaves: silver ash, queensland maple, or jarrah. Are any of these an acceptable tonewoods???

Any comments would be helpful!!! :D

Jarrah is considered tone dead, is very heavy and hard on woodworking tools.

According to the Queensland Government the only wood you mentioned that has been used in guitars is Queensland Maple. There are some folks who think that wood selection is meaningless to tone. I am not one of them. If it's anything like north american maple then I imagine it would make for a bright sounding bass. Not neccessarilly a bad thing in a bass. Might give it clarity and note definition.

Ordinarilly ash would be a natural choice but the same web site makes no mention of "silver" ash being used in instrument building.

No mention of instrument building for Jarrah either.

Beyond finding these links for you I can be of no further assistance to you as I have no experience or knowledge of any of these woods. Hope you find something that works out for you.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

If you want to try something different, consider
Tasmanian Blackwood, Queensland Maple or Silver Ash.
