I’ve read many good things about Classic Vibe and some issue with manufacturing process for MIM so here it goes:

1. Sound: does Fender MIM have that Tele sound or not? How does it compare to Squire Classic Vibe sound? Do I really need to pay attention to what magnets are in Fender MIM?
2. Build: I suppose Fender MIM is better made than Squire, overall. Is that so?
3. Price: CV-$379 vs. MIM-$499. Does Fender MIM make up that price diff?

Many thanks in advance.

Welcome newcomer. Your question is valid and the choice is one that I made in 2011. I had never owned a tele and wanted to buy one in the range you are looking at. I went to my local GC which had 4 MIM teles and one CV 50s. I played them all and ended up buying the Squier. Sound difference is subjective and so much depends on your amp and other variables. I think you will find the build quality of the classic vibe series to be on par with the Mexican models. They both have the same neck profile and radius so they feel similar. For me, it was the appointments on the Squier that won me over. The CV 50s has a vintage bridge and tuners and I instantly fell in love with the tinted glossy neck which gives the guitar a further vintage look. The price difference to me was an added bonus. I bought mine at a time when Fender was running a rebate and with the money I saved over the MIM, I was able to buy a Champion 600 amp to go with it! I must confess though, I have since bought an American tele. A ’52 Hot Rod to be exact. But not because I grew tired of the Squier. ( I still play it regularly!) It was because I fell in love with telecasters in general. Which ever you decide to buy, I’m sure you’ll be happy. I wish I had tried a tele years ago. :D

All subjective.

CVs get a lot of good reports. A Tele sounds like a Tele, but all guitars will probably vary in some way or another.

Go try both, buy the one you like best.

This may be useful. It's sales vid, so take with a pinch. It's someone else playing, he's probably got a high end amp, lots of variables etc - but the guy was genuine in buying one for himself, I think it's in some of his home vids.

the biggest difference will be resale value. fender labeled guitars will always hold their price better than a squire, even if the guitars are exactly as good as each other. which is generally with the case with MIM std v squire CV.

Lots of people buy guitars to play, not sell. Buying something on expectation of resale is worth it for cars, but not for guitars IMO.

You'd also have to do the numbers to see if that's actually the case. Really, how much are you out of pocket on a $300 squier after a few years - $200?

A US Fender costs you more, and you can lose far more than 300 selling it on.

If you're the sort that buys and sells guitars all the time, you're losing money all the time.

right on all accounts, i was just pointing out what i believe to the the main difference between the 2.

also, considering the guitars in question, and the fact the OP is new here, i might assume hes new to guitar and looking for a cheap, but decent way in.

and lets face it, 6 months into playing we all want to buy something better and more expensive, in which case the MIM std would probably be better to have as you can recoup more money towards a new guitar.

A MIM is a nice starter guitar, and the name on the head has allure...

I have a variety of high and low end Fenders and Gibson's.

Let me start by saying for years I was a guitar snob. A Squire?.....and Epiphone?.....

I had tried those cheap, poorly crafted models in the shops and wouldn’t be caught dead playing that drift wood in my bedroom never mind in public.

About ten years ago I was just browsing threw some shops, blindly picked up a Strat and immediately had it melt in my hands, it felt better, looked better then any other strat I have ever played.

Knowing it would not be physically possible for me to leave the building without the Strat I could already hear my wallet and credit score start to scream from the inevitable kicking it was about to take.

Price tag - $500 and MIM

As said a million times on this and other sites from people who know what their talking about, the MIM guitars now (as apposed to the 90's and before) are simply a steal both in quality and price.

I would easily put up my $500 Strat against any custom shop $3000 MIA any day of the week and dare you find flaws other than personal preference and snobbery lol!

When the blacktop series was released I picked up a Tele model for my father - not necessarily a traditional Tele, but extremely well crafted, Big jumbo frets, still able to pull some traditional tones out of it along with a lot more growl. And again for $500…..how can you go wrong?

This Christmas my father gave me a Squire CV 50's Tele, butterscotch. Just like the MIM Fender has finally put some time and effort into the Squire line. Beautiful finish, Slim smooth playing neck, medium to small frets, tight tension on the strings and it sounds like a traditional Tele, easy vintage tones pour out of it.

Now for myself…..and this is just me, I have yet to pick up a MIM standard Tele that I like the tone on, like any of the above mentioned along with people's beloved MIA models, you always have to search for the right one, for me, im not a fan of the Standard MIM tele tone, however workmanship on them is still great, and would be very easy just to snag some different pups to have installed and still be under what you would spend on a MIA model.

Don't get me wrong, im not anti MIA, (however im not American lol) I just think that people get stuck in the MIA mindset just like I was stuck in my own snobbery towards lower priced guitars.

What style of music do you play?.........if you just want straight up traditional tones without any effort?....the CV Squire….if you have some more cash to spend?......get the MIM but change the pup's

Nothing but my 2 cents
