Hello,

I love Telecasters so I finally sold my Strat to get one.

I had the choice of a 2nd hand Ebay 2011 60th Anniversary Deluxe Strat in Cherry Sunburst or for a bit more a new shop bought Deluxe Tobacco burst one so I went for the shop bought one.

Both have US11 serial numbers but the one I got doesnt have the 60th Anniversary neck plate.

I was wondering if they were both made in 2011 or it could be a 2012?

Thanks.

Fender doesn't switch over the serial number decals on January 2nd (or whatever the first business day of a new year might be); they typically use them up - or at least use them until there are so few left they don't care about throwing them out. Plus they likely have some level of necks in their parts stock waiting assembly at any given time. Since the serial numbers are applied to the necks prior to them being sprayed with their finish there are always going to be necks started in December 2011 and therefore have 2011 serial numbers that don't get used until 2012.

Also it seems like the switchover point for Fender has gotten to be about March these days - they wound up using two different serial number formats for USA guitars in 2010. For the first few months (say January - March) of 2010 the serial numbers just started with a "10" - so they looked like "10xxxxxx" and that "10" was pretty similar to the other 6 digits of the serial number. Some time in March/April Fender began using a "US10" prefix so the serial numbers were "US10xxxxxx" and the "US10" was a different, bolder font. So now instead of switching over in January they seem to switch to the new year's serial numbers in March.

If you find an American Standard Tele with a "US11xxxxxx" serial number but without the "60th Anniversary" neck plate then it was likely made in early 2012.

Thanks John for the great answer on the serials, I thought it might have been a 2012, either that or it had been gathering dust in a storeroom for well over a year, that makes the purchase seem worth it over the other one I thought about.

:-) Stratele52, I wish I could buy more, I know soon I probably will, nothing like a Fender for me.

fire off a note with the serial number to consumerrelations@fender.co (they have a bit of a back log at present) ask them for the spec it may also include when the guitar was sent out from the factory this will help narrow it down.
