I just purchased a body and neck from WD Music. I now need to get the hardware. I am looking for suggestions on a quality bridge as well as tuning machines. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also should I go with a 3 saddle or 6?

This is my first build so take it easy on me.

For the bridge, it really comes to your personal preference between 6 saddle and 3 saddle. The new 6 saddle bridges sound great and look great. They're easy to intonate and have a great design. you can also look into graph tech saddles which let the string slide a little easier making for fewer tuning problems. If you like the 3 saddle design, i would look at compensated saddles by wilkinson, glendale and a host of others. With compensated saddles, perfect intonation is possible like with the 6 saddles though it may be a little harder to get. It truly comes down to what you like visually, and if there is a preference in feel for you. Sound wise....really not going to make a very noticeable difference. some people say brass is warmer etc. My suggestion (like always) is to go try out some teles with vintage and modern bridges. See if theres a discernable difference in fell or sound. As far as tuning machines, I don't know to much. I'm finishing up my tele project and just went for the vintage style gotoh tuners cause i liked the look and haven't had problems with them and tuning in the past. I have heard other people complain however. Hopefully someone else can expand on the tuning machines. Good luck!

I would go with a 3-saddle compensated, like the last one shown on this page, a Callaham:

http://www.specialtyguitars.com/bridges/bridges.html

85% of players will tell you that it gives you more of the Tele twang and snap than a 6-saddle, but it's all a matter of taste. I myself have 6-saddle, because I'm replacing them with Graph Tech's Ghost piezo saddles to give me acoustic sounds.

For tuners, Schaller's locking seems to be one of the most popular, but you have a ton of choices.

all parts makes a pretty good 3 barrel brass saddle bridge for around 50, but if you want a good one go with a Glendale out of Ft. Worth. I have one with brass on the dgbe and alum on the ea strings. Sounds soo good!! I am all about the tradiotnal 3 barrel bridges. I think that the brass barrels make a big difference in the tone of the guitar

I am building my own tele on a tight budget. I feel that the 3-saddle bridge has a warmer sound with more sustain. I picked up a wilkinson compensated for under 25 bucks. As for other misc hardware e-bay is tough to beat. DO NOT buy cheap pots or switchs. Now for the fun stuff, pickups! Take your time and do some research listen to different tele players, check out harmonycentral user reviews. Some sites have sound bites. Good Luck and Happy Pickin':D

Guitar Parts Central is great if you want to save money, but they don't have much in the way of electric stuff. For that go to StewMac.com and look up wiring kits. StewMac also has a nice selection of tuners, from their own economy tuners to waverys to Gotohs. They have a few tele bridges you could use too. As far as 3 or 6 saddles, get the 3, because it'll be easier to intonate and they look better anyways.

Shoulda gotten the wood for a body and then cut it and routed it out yourself. If you have the tools it's a lot of fun. You can save like 200 bucks that way. Definately buy the neck though. Mighy Mite necks can be found on ebay for liek 100 bucks. Just a few things to consider if you build another one. I'm building a tele too. Hopefully I'll be done by next year.
