The buzzing is on the instrument. It's a physical buzz that I can't pinpoint. It happens when UNPLUGGED. Not a string buzz. The buzzing comes and goes. Is this a common thing? Anyone know what it is?

The guitar is an american tele, about a year old.

Sounds like the action (string height) is set a little too low.

This is ot a string buzz. It seems to be internal.

CAFeathers,

Thank you.

It does appear to coming from the tuners are. (I had trouble isolating because I'm deaf in one ear, but with your suggestion I played for about 15 minutes, until the buzz started, then I put my ear near the tuners, and it does appear to be in the tuner area).

Do you think they need tightening? Replacing? Bad string job?

Remove the strings and tighten them. Restring, tune. If you still hear buzzing then replacement might be in order.

I've had the "micro-tilt" neck adjustment screw work loose and cause a weird noise. That was a fun one to chase down

How'd you fix it once found?

I tightened it gently until it stopped - and then I took it in to have it set up, frets dressed and all.
