Could someone answer a question for me?

I have a 2007 Tele that has ceramic magnets. The bridge pickup has two magnets (one on each side of the poles). The magnets are not even. One of them looks like it should be moved more toward the low "E" position.

Can these magnets be removed and evened up?

Do they NEED to be removed and evened up?

The only other Standard Tele I have has alnico magnet pickups, so I don't know if these crooked ceramic things are normal or not.

I would appreciate some help/advice here.

They can be removed, lined up and refitted without much trouble. It's a pretty common thing to do if you want to swap magnets between pickups, change magnetic polarity, etc.

Really doesn't make much (if any) difference though unless they're pretty much dangling off the pickup, so unless you're very OCD as to what the inside of your guitar looks like, it's not worth the bother.

Does the guitar sound good? Yes, than I wouldn't worry about it.

I apologize. I was mistaken.

BOTH of the magnets are off. They extend beyond the High E pole and look to be about 20% on the Low E pole.

The low e string is a bit weak.

The magnetic attraction for the low E string is much, much less than any of the other poles on that pickup.

Cheap ceramic magnet pickups worth maybe $5.00 each. Quit obsessing over them. Pull them out, throw them away, and buy some decent pickups.

I know this hurts, but this is the truth.

That's a stupid thing to say.

I am not "obsessing" over them. I just asked if they could be fixed.

If you want to fix, just pop the magnets off with a pair of pliers - the glue that holds them on is usually very weak. It sometimes helps to score along the edges with a razor, just watch you don't catch a wire in the process.

Make sure to make a note of the orientation of the magnets - they need to go back on in exactly the same way, so make some notes and mark the magnets with a bit of tape or such before you remove them.

Tidy up the old glue from the base of the pickup with a razor or sandpaper, and glue the magnets back where they should be. Simple.

I'd just buy a new pickup, personally, as they're cheap - but the fix is easy enough if you don't want to bother. :)

You want to waste time fixing a set of cheap ceramic pickups? Have at it. I call that "obsessing".

They might be pickups that have a particular tone. They might even have some weird sentimental value to the OP. Or, more likely, why the hell not? If someone can even save a couple of quid and try to rescue an otherwise perfectly usable pickup by doing five minutes simple work, why shouldn't they?

People fix cheap things all the time. That's not obsessive. If the OP wants to fix his pickups, he should go right ahead without being labelled as a nutter.

If he wanted to paint them purple and glue them back on sideways to try to draw the spirit of Hendrix out from the ethereal waves, that's his right. Well, okay, maaaaybe that's when you'd start thinking the term 'obsessed' could be used.
