Yes Orvilleowner, thats the idea. Just imagine if you took the management out of fender and replaced em with uppity crackheads. First thing they'd do is loose the tele followed by selling the licence rights for their basses for $40 to get some rocks.

Its a stupid thread we may aswell reply with ridiculous answers. :D

Well, I figured if there's going to be a debate, somebody has to take the contrary position!

Besides, I have my Tele. Plus, there are plenty of them out there for sale, so if Fender did, for any reason, discontinue them, they would still be quite available.

You could bet every telecaster in the world would be bought inside 12 hours of fender stopping production. from squire to masterbuilt they would all be snapped up. G&L would be laughing all the way to the bank. Tom anderson would triple the price of hollow T's.

A world without telecasters would be a very dark depressed place.

Imagine if nobody ever heard that quacky twang again. We'd all be singing bye bye miss american pie.

Yea,
Say what you want and play what you want, then close your eyes and play a nicely set up std tele.... It all goes back to that KISS principle Keep It Simple Stupid!! A tele puts the control in your 'hands'.

All you need is the Tele, a quality cord and a nice Fender tube amp and you can probably play just about anything from country to some pretty decent jazz.

IMO-Les Pauls are too muddy for funk or intricate rhythm, Strats (like these too) can't get that twang/bite, Most Ibanezes are set up for shredders (not my style). I can play all that tight Krispy funk, stanky porch monkey blues, mild rock, smooth jazz and even those acoustic campfire type songs on the thing.

Can't get rid of a guitar that's this easy to play and has this kind of versatility even though it's not the prettiest thing on the scene. Ugliness has nothing to do with tone and playability!!

The Telecaster is not really ugly at all. But it certainly doesn't have the beautiful design elements of a Stratocaster. The Stratocaster is far and away the most beautiful of all electric guitars. It incorporates design elements used for centuries by skilled furniture builders. These design elements please the eye.

I have to admit, when I first played a Tele, I didn't like the feel. The squared sides with no conture where strange. I hated the new style bridge and wasn't too fond of the maple neck.

THAT LASTED ABOUT FIVE MINUTES .

I started with Strat's. So they kinda feel like home. I'll tell you though there's nothing like grabin' a Tele and digging in. The feel and sound, SWEET.

It is cool to see the evolution from the Tele to the Strat, though. A lot of the changes make good sense. Some are pure astetics. The thing I think is interesting though is, if you take the headstocks, as far as design, aren't they backwards? I love the Strat headstock. To me it seems like it belongs on a classic instrument. The Teles' seems more modern. Just sort of backwards. Anyone else notice that?

Even though I prefer to play a good strat over a tele any day, (tone and John Frusciante uses one most often) I like teles as well (Frusciante also plays one fairly often) and it would be the worst decision in the history of guitar to discontinue it.

The Telecaster is beautiful in it's utter simplicity.
It's pure
It's functional
It's unpretentious

Jesus plays a Telecaster

Telecaster's are ugly? If there is such a thing, I've yet to see it. It's more than just a guitar, it's a work of art imho.

You might not dig Teles, but I cannot stand Strats. The middle pickup is always in the way, the volume knob is always in the way....I think Strats are well designed, and I would hang one on my wall to be admired for its nice design, but when it comes to playing, I'll take a Tele over a Strat any day....In fact, I don't think you could pay me enough money to play a Strat, cause other than the fact that they look nice, I just can't stand Strats....

Robbie Robertson is the only other person I ever heard complain about the center pickup. He's got a CS signiture strat with the center pickup moved close to the bridge pickup and angelled just like the bridge pickup. You can see it on Clapton's Crossroads 2007 DVD during the performance of "WHO Do You Love"

I own both and never had a problem; you just adjust the same way you do to other other non ergonomic items in life.
