I used to think Teles were ugly, and had only a country sound to them. I passed by them for years in the guitar shops and had no interest in trying one. Then one day I sat down and played one and I was hooked. I would never want to be without one again. So to answer the question if Fender should discontinue the Tele: absolutely, positively, never in a million years.

What's with all the Tele hate? They sound great, and are very versatile. Just because they aren't as pretty as a Strat is no reason to discontinue a great intrument

Not only no ,but hell no!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone said thet their Tele was always the closest at hand. Same here. I own two great Strats and my Teles are 90% of the time my first choice if I'm just looking to play around at home.
But they are totaly different instruments as far as sound. There are things that both do best. Clean singing stuff my strat is the choice, but if I want that punky stones sounding punch in the gut, my Tele is the best guitar made period. Writen in stone. LOL. Peace. J.J.B.

It's like liking mustard. I personally do not like mustard much, but others love it. Heck, maybe it's even an acquired taste for many, but truly, it doesn't take much at all to acquire it.

Just because you dislike it doesn't mean anybody else does. I for one, find the Strat to plain. I'm to used to it. It's boring. That's like if your mom fed you way to many Sunny D's when you were a kid (which mine did), and you just can't stand it anymore, it just got to the point of disgustingness.

Besides, when I have a Musicians' Friend magazine on the bus and people look at it, they look at the Fender/strat page and say " Oh, so this page is for all of the normal guitars?" That right there is a sign the strat is way to overplayed. But then, so is the Les Paul, so I'm not saying it's quite so bad, it's just boring.

Ajajajajajajajajajaja, discontinue the tele???? WTF?????? If anybody thinks it seriously (I guess there is no guitar player that can think that seriously) is because they have not played one....if otherwise, I would be shocked!!!!
There will be teles as long as there is guitar playing

Agreed, frankly I find it amazing that it's managed to have this many responses.

Yeah, but don't you notice that most of the responses are saying pretty much the same thing as what I said.
And, people, quit trying to compare the Strat to the Tele. It's like comparing a Gibson Flying V to a Gibson Achtop Jazz Guitar. (And, yes, I do realize that neither the Strat or the Tele are Jazz guitars. It's an illustration of how dumb these kind of threads are).
