the telecaster isn't goin' anywhere. it's not only beautiful (even if in an "ugly" way), and it not only has the most unique and distinctive guitar sound around, but it's virtually an american icon! you might as well change the stars and stripes on old glory if the tele went away!

long live the tele!

I won't say I hate the Strat, and yes i do own one. That said, I do agree that the Tele is an amazing guitar, and i'd have to say, it's my favorite. I hadn't played one until this past memorial day weekend. I went from Iowa to KC, MO with my fam to visit my g-parents, and my grandpa was talkin about how much he loves the tele, and having never played one, I was curious. We took a trip to the local Guitar Center and I looked around, played a few strats, then hooked up a tele. It instantly replaced the strat as my favorite guitar. The sounds you can get are so versatile. I like the ultra clean neck position with some reverb the best. Although i've never liked the headstock one bit, it remains one of my favorite guitars.

Let's put it this way, if Fender stopped making the Great Telecaster, I would have it made from the Fender Custom Shop. And to all you strat-lovers, "first come, first serve." 8)

I'm totally with flamemaker. it's like gibson discontinuing the les paul or sg. it just ain't gonna happen. it's like microsoft discontinuing Windows altogether. (though i'm not sure that would be a bad idea with vista.) It's like no more ipod from apple. no more sandwiches from subway. no more pizza from pizza hut. no more burgers from mcdonald's. now i'm hungry, but yeah, it's never gonna happen, and i'll disown fender entirely if in the impossible chance it does happen.

Out of my 1 Fender Tele & 4 Fender Strats, the Tele is always a short reach away. I have to get up and go across the room, for any one of the Strats.

I love the Tele, too. Still, a more accurate statement would be "the Strat was made because of the shortcomings of Telecasters". The thing that made Leo's product development so successful was that he sent his prototypes into the field with musicians on actual gigs, got their feedback, and incorporated what he learned into the next design. Then he sent it back into the field to begin another cycle.
