Actually, the Telecaster wasn't the very first electric guitar. The Fender guitar that became known as the Telecaster was the first mass produced electric guitar. There were many hand carved electic guitar makers at the time. They were just really expensive and Leo saw a market for making an electric guitar that the "Average Joe" could buy and play.

 Cancelling the Telecaster is a stupid idea.

Discontinuing the Telecaster would be like discontinuing blues music...you may not love it (the Telecaster or Blues) or play it (Tele or Blues), but you have to admit it's the foundation of everything we play.

There were no commercially viable solidbody Spanish-style guitars available prior to the Tele. If it hadn't been successful, we might have never received the Precision Bass, the Les Paul, the Stratocaster, the Jazzmaster, the Flying V, and the list goes on...

The Telecaster is much more flexible and customizable (tone-wise and appearance-wise) than people give it credit for; even the variations within the model itself (Thinline, Custom, Deluxe, etc) are very unique.

My Tele--
a mid-90s MIM Fender Telecaster classic.
See-thru blonde w/black pickguard. Maple fretboard. Classic late 50s/early 60s logo. Vintage-style bridge plate w/6 individual saddles.
Originally, it had a coil-tapped humbucker in the neck position, with a five-way switch to access the various col-tapped tones and combinations.
After temporarily converting it to an Esquire (I just had to try it for a while; it's out of my system now), I replaced the humbucker with a P90, and installed a 4-way switch (B+N pickups in series, N pickup alone, B+N in parallel, B pickup alone) and a no-load tone potentiometer.

Great tones for blues, country, rock and even a little jazz...it is, like most Teles, a very able and rockin' little machine that lets the player's style shine through.

Good Vibes To Y'all!

8)

I am referring to any person who puts up a pointless poll that has a somewhat obvious answer.

Fender Vs Gibson on a Fender site....hmmm, wonder how that will turn out....

Telecaster Vs something else on the Telecaster sub forum....Gee, wonder how that will end....

DDDUUUUHHHH, I wonder how the poll will look if I put a poll up about gun-control on an anti-gun control forum....

I agree with that totallly. I also own a Gibson Les Paul Std. Unfortunately, I can't quite get the twang I want so that's why I bought the Hwy 1 Tele. Well, I originally bought it for my dad to replace the one he traded a friend for a POS Peavey, but he told me he didn't want it, they are too easy to play. If that makes any sense. Contrary to your statement though, I have seen a bunch of Strat, Ibanez (all models), and LP people in these forums cheering them on. And I will admit, the LP has it's place (up there on the price scale), in music. It's just not the Bakersfield sound I want.

I understand that there are people who loves other brands and styles of guitars on this forum, but still on a Fender forum, I would be surprised if answers didn't lean more Fender on a Fender site. Just like I'd expect the answers for other brands to be more for those brands, when opposed to Fender, on the other brands forums....

I get ya man, Pro-Gun, by the way. Although, I love it when those anti-Fender people come here and preach. The best one I have seen so far was an Ibanez lover. I agreed, they make some good guitars, when you use them for what they are set up for. This particular individual that just didn't understand the passion people have for Fender guitars, be it the Tele, Strat, Jazzmaster, or Jaguar, actually took time to look at them and do some research and deciede on a Tele. Please realize this individual was an Ibanez lover because of some artist whose name escapes me at the moment. The only thing that counts when you buy a guitar is that "you" like the way it looks, plays, and most of all feels in your hands.

"They are kinda ugly"???

Dude, number one: The tele looks amazing in my opinion.
Two: It doesn't matter if it's the ugliest thing on the planet, as long as it sounds like heaven, which it does.

Long live the telecaster.
