Hey All,

I'm buying a new Standard Tele in the next few weeks(as soon as my local shop gets in a white one). I was wondering what all you have to say about these guitars as far as any issues there may be with them. I've heard good things about them and noodled with a few in the store but would like as much info as possible.

Thanks

Dave.

My MIM Tele is great !

Even though it began life as a Deluxe Series 'Nashville' Tele, the PO eliminated the middle pup and the 5-way switch, making it just a standard Telecaster (??? I know right ???).

Plus, it's Arctic White !

But, it plays amazing !

cheers!

I bought my MIM quite a while ago now and still love it. I have always wanted a Tele and finally gave in and got one. It sounds like a Tele, plays like the Tele's I have tried in years gone by so I am very happy with buying the MIM version.

See the link below for some photos and info on my MIM Tele.

There are no issues with them. The MIM guitars are true workhorses. In the past, they had cheap pickups, but the rest of the electronics (pots, switch) are the same as the USA guitars. In recent years they've even began shielding the pickup cavities, so they've only gotten better!

I've got a '96 MIM Standard that's still with me and still played alongside all my more expensive guitars. Mine started as a plain old standard. I've changed everything on it:
-Locking tuners
-BWB pickguard
-Seymour Duncan Broadcaster pickup in the bridge, '59n humbucker in the neck
-Fender vintage style 3-saddle bridge with compensated brass saddles
-Fender "no-load" tone pot
-50's style knurled dome top knobs

17 years old and it's still in excellent shape despite being gigged for almost all of that time. She sounds as good (or even a bit better) than my Limited Edition Thin Skin '52.

My MIM Tele from 1996 had cheap pots and switch in it when I got it. Since then I've replaced the pots with CTS, Fender 3-way switch, Orange drop cap, Switchcraft output jack, and cloth covered wiring. Did I need too, not really. I had the stuff and figured why not!

I own four different MIM Telecasters and love them all. I've done slight mods on two of them, but the other two are bone stock. I also own MIJ, MIK and MIA Telecasters. Teles were (and still are) my first love when it came to guitars.

I have a 60th Anniversary MIM, a 50th Anniversary MIJ Vegas Tele and a vintage 64 Tele.

My MIM has solid hardware and good electronics. I really like the ceramic pups. I don't get a traditional tele twang out of them, but they are excellent for blues and rock.

I have one and it is absolutely fantastic! The only mod I did to it was to change out the bridge to an ash tray bridge with 3 brass saddles ( Fender Replacement parts). That was only because I hate 6 saddle bridges on a Tele. It is a sweet playing and sounding guitar! It is one of those that I will never trade or sell!

I have a MIM '72 Tele Deluxe. I love it! It took over as my number and my American Standard Strat now sits in the rack at gigs as my back up guitar(not that I need a back up) Looking at getting a 3TSB maple fretboard Standard Tele and modding it( Humbucker in neck, twisted Tele in Bridge, 3 barrel brass saddles, Black Pickguard) for live use.

I have three MIMs, in order of purchase: a Classic 60s Series Tele in candy apple red, an FSR Tele Deluxe in surf pearl and a Classic 50s Series Tele in transparent blonde with an ash body. They all sound different through a good amp, the build quality is superb, and the necks are all beautiful to play. I love them all.

In the coming weeks I may do a head to head test with the 50s Series and my MIA Lamboo Telebration, and if I'm feeling comfortable I may even put up a video of the test.

The main difference between the sound of my MIA compared to my MIMs is that the AM standard tele pickups sound what can only be described as more tuneful or more melodious that the pickups on the MIMs, but if you were in the audience at a gig you probably wouldn't be able to hear that slight difference.

I would happily buy another MIM without reservation (I'm thinking Playa Baja in butterscotch blonde or maybe an Antigua FSR - I don't really need another guitar but you know how it is:-) ).

I have two MIM Teles (one stock, one with upgraded pups and tuners) and they're fine. The stock pickups are somewhat muted when compared to the AmStd Teles I also have, but they're not "bad" in any sense. I haven't had any problem with the electronics or the build quality and I use them a lot.

I also have a MIM p-bass and my go-to Strat is a MIM (that upgraded with Lace Sensors, but the body and construction are top rate). Bottom line is: they're great working guitars and a worth it platform if you do decide to upgrade components down the road.

I've never owned an MIM Tele but have owned several MIM Strats and they're great guitars, imo. I wouldnt hesitate to buy one of their Teles if I was in the market for one. :)

Got a MIM Tele for Christmas from the wife in brown sunburst. Beautiful finish, really comfortable neck and perfectly set up from the factory. The new hot standad Tele pups(as described by Fender) are powerful. I swapped to Fender locking tuners and a black pickguard (just as a matter of preference). Play it every day even, more than my Am. Spec. FSR Strat and vintage LP.
