Back in December '07, I went to my local guitar store just to kill some time. When I walked in, I noticed, sitting in the used section, a beautiful sunburst, maple fretboard, left-handed MIA Tele. I immediately fell in love. I quickly decided to trade in my Ibanez hollow body (which I liked), an acoustic and a bunch of effects for it. They took all my gear plus 50 bucks (the Tele was 650, used). It's in great condition.

I have a MIA Strat (same basic look as the Tele above) that I got back in '98. I absolutely love my Strat. It looks/sounds/feels wonderful. I have found, though, that I have gone with the Tele most often when reaching for a guitar. Perhaps it's still the novelty, perhaps not. I love the Tele for it's solid feel. It has the glassy sound you come to love in a Fender, but at the same time, it has a solid/warm/thick feel that can really kick nine kinds of $@! when you want it to. I was playing with my buddy the other day, and he has an array of Les Pauls and the like. While I like the sound of the LP, I found that my Tele more than held it's own and, to my ears, surpassed it in terms of tone and flexibility.

In a nutshell: I freakin' love my Telecaster!!!

Wheeeeee! :D

I must agree, but I think the Telecaster is an acquired taste, like beer is to cognac or skinny 19y/o girls vs. a full grown woman w/ love handles.

I think my generation has been deeply affected by Jimi's use of the stratocaster and his sheer virtuosity. But I heard that Jimi used a Telecaster for 'Hey Joe'. And Jimmy Page used one on led Zeppelin I and on the lead for 'Stairway to Heaven'. But I like the old school quality of the sound, the huskier voicing it has when comparing my strats to the Tele.

And even though the guys in my band don't really hear it, I do. It's my most played guitar at the moment and I've had it for 8 months, and showing no signs of stopping. I went out of town about a week ago, and I took the Gibson L6-S, because I didn't want to mess up my better guitars. The whole time I played it, I was thinking about the Telecaster, and how much better it would sound.

Is this LOVE or Obsession or WHAT?

I am a tele guy through and through. My guitar teacher hates em and wanted to know why I liked them so much. He thinks I like the shape of the guitar, which is true. I like the sound it makes. You have to know how to play guitar to make it wail. You have just two pick ups and a three way switch and it is amazing the sounds you can get if you know how to play. In the end it you get more satisfication knowing that you were able to make the tones and sounds and not an extra pick up and switch positions.
