Hi everybody this is my first post (of many I hope)!

So, I get my first fender guitar today I'm really happy with it but it come with what I think it's a .09 gauge strings (if not less...) I'm just to use .10 gauge strings in my old type les paul guitar, and I really like to have this gauge in my Blacktop also, but since I'm not quite sure of how a telecaster works I'm a little bit scared that something bad happen.

I know a friend who put a gauge .11 in his stratocaster and the bridge almost pulloff

So, any tips?

Thanks!

You're right, Blacktop Teles do come with .009 guage strings.

Since you are used to .010s on your LP you might want to give the .009s a try on the Tele. Don't forget the Tele's scale length is 25.5" long while the LP is closer to 24.625"-24.65" (if you slap a tape measure on a typical Gibson it's going to come up a bit shorter than that 24.75" they list on their specs). Since the Tele's scale is longer it will have a bit more tension than the LP so you might find the .009s "feel" about the same as .010s on the LP.

If you do find you want to change to the .010s, you likely wouldn't need more than minor adjustments. Your friend went up 2 guages on his Strat and since a Strat has a floating trem bridge it of couse pulled way up off the body - the Strat trem "balances" between the strings and the springs in the back. When the strings exerted more tension than it was set up for he had to make an adjustement to the spring tension in the back to bring it back into balance. You don't have to worry about that on the Tele.

Thank you guys! I will try the 0.09 for a while and see how it feels, since I'm far from home, I can't play the tele and the LP side by side now.

:D cheers!

I've used both 9's and 10's on my Tele's and my LP either one works fine. I prefer the 9's on both, but I think it depends on the type music you're going to play. I play the blues and do a lot of string bending and the 9's just work better. If you're a strummer you might like the 10's better. Just my opinion. 8) 8)

Also depends on how strong finger you had, some people will prefer the 0.08 :P

I like the color of the 10 in the LP. For now the 9 aren't too bad in the tele for me, but I don't know how the 10 sound yet.
