Hello Board! My first post!

I'm thinking about buying a new guitar! A Telecaster 52 Reissue. It belongs to a friend in the USA and I'm in the UK.

I have some pictures, which are blurry a bit. I'd like to know how I can find out it's value and providence.

The Serial number on the ticket (one from Fender, one from the guitar shop) says 44031, which makes it a 1960 or 61, i think. My friend thought it was a '72. It also has a CE sticker on the back of the neck plate.

It comes in the case with the ashtray cover and manuals etc. it's in good condition, box fresh and i'm getting it for a great price.

However, it's 3000 miles away from me and before i commit and send money, i'd like to know more about it if I can.

Thank you for any help you can give me!

H

To get better information on the guitar, you can contact consumerrelations@fender.com and they should be able to help.
The serial number alone is probably not enough to date the guitar, but if it's a genuine '52 reissue, there should be a dated certificate with it...unless that has been lost! Surest way is to take the neck off and look for dates on the neck and in the neck pocket.
If it's a genuine '52 reissue it is from 1982 or later, not '60/61 or '72.

For values, it's worth taking a look on eBay, as there's always ones on there, and the completed sales, especially, can give you a good idea of what they are selling for!

Great! Thanks for your information!

Can i ask, why wouldn't it be from 72?

Did they not make a 'reissue' until the 80's? If that's the case, and presuming the guitar is from 72, does that make it a 'regular issue'?

Cheers,

H

If the guitar is a '72, then, no, it would not be a '52 reissue, just a regular Tele of that early seventies period, but would maybe be worth more than a '52 reissue.
I think you maybe need to get some more, detailed, info from your friend before making any final commitment.

+1 Butterscotch

Hi HarryHarryHarry,
Since you never really know without pulling the neck off, and that's not something you do without extra care, take what I write with a grain of salt.
Just for grins I did a serial search in our database (only goes back to about 93) and do have a match. I show that serial as belonging to Fender Part # 010 0202 850 with FEnder Description of AM VINT 52 TELE BTB W/C completion date of 5/21/2002 and shipped to a dealer in Louisiana (i believe) 5/24/2002.
Not sure if that helps or hinders, but thats what i gots.
By the way, we're a bit backed up in COnsumer Relations so you may get a delayed response....but hopefully it will be the same as mine. If you still have a Fender tag on it, have a look at the part number and see if it matches up.
As Butterscotch alluded to....Vintage Reissues didnt exist until around 82.
All the best,
rob

Wow, that information is gold. Thank you.

The current owner will not remove the neck. It's in mint condition and he won't put a screwdriver onto the heads of the screws incase they burr.

I do have a tag that looks genuine, but that's not a lot of help, really. I don't doubt it's a real Fender...

The number matches, the part number. 100202 850. If I could post pictures here i would put it up. There's no description on the tag and it was bought from a dealer in Rochester, NY.
Thank you again for your help and information. I've been searching for a while.
