I was watching an old Ventures video on You tube from around `84,and the Telecaster that Nokie Edwards was using on that show sounded awsome.

I looked closely and it seems to have a small toggle switch between the volume and tone knob.

Were there telecasters sold like this??if so,,which one(s) as i`dlike to see if it is woth modding my 2011 like it,,as I REALLY like the sound that came from that Telecaster.
I also need to spend some years learning to play like that too.

Thanks
Phil

Could you find and post a link to the video? Being as that was 1984 who knows what kind of mods old Nokie could have done to whatever Tele he was playing.

Off the top of my head the Teles I can think of with a mini-toggle on them from the factory were later models, starting with the Tele Plus circa 1988:

Tele Plus v.1 - this is the version with a single Lace Sensor in the neck position and a "Dually" Lace Sensor in the bridge position. A Dually was (I guess still is if you get one from Lace) 2 Lace Sensors put together like a humbucker pickup. The mini-toggle on the Tele Plus v.1 was used to select the "coil" (or individual Lace Sensor) of the Dually Lace - you could have the back "coil", both "coils", or the front "coil". The Tele Plus Deluxe worked the same way, only the Tele Plus Deluxe had a trem bridge, roller nut and locking tuners. The Tele Plus v.1 was made circa 1988-sometime in 1995.

Tele Plus v.2 - this version had a "Nashville" pickup set-up - a neck Tele pickup, a middle Strat pickup, and a bridge Tele pickup. On the Tele Plus v.2 these were all Lace Sensor pickups. These had a 5-way switch wired up like a Strat so the mini-toggle would combine the neck and bridge pickup in postions 1 and 5 (and I think would give you all 3 pickups in positions 2 and 4 but I'm not sure). The Tele Plus v.2 was made from mid/late 1994 through 1997 (and a few made it out of the factory in 1998 and 1999).

American Deluxe Telecaster v.1 - in 1998 the American Deluxe series replaced the old "Plus" models; the first of the American Deluxe Teles kept the Nashville configuration of the Tele Plus v.2 but (along with other updates) the pickups changed over to Fender's Vintage Noiseless. The mini-toggle worked the same way. This version of the America Deluxe was only made for about a year - call it March 1998 until maybe July 1999 if not earlier. Sometime between January and July 1999 the American Deluxe Tele went back to 2 pickups with a 3-way switch and the mini-toggle went away.

American Deluxe Power Telecaster - added the Fishman Power Bridge to the American Deluxe Tele. After the American Deluxe Tele went back to only having 2 pickups and a 3-way switch the mini-toggle on these was used to activate the Fishman piezo pickup and blend it with the magnetic pickups. I'm not 100% sure when these were discontinued; I believe they were only made from 1999 until 2002 but I could be off by a year or so on that.

The current Modern Player Telecaster Plus also has a mini-toggle; one this HSS guitar the mini-toggle is used to select the coil of the bridge humbucker just like the switch was used on the original Tele Plus v.1s.

One of his Teles is fitted with a pair of full-sized rail humbuckers. The guitar in question doesn't had that toggle mod you're talking about. A couple of pictures might help a lot.

The Nokie Edwards Telecaster was manufactured by Fender Japan in 1996.

The USA Deluxe Power Tele has been introduced in 2000 and discontinued the following year.

Thanks; for some reason I thought they were a 3-year run - either 1999-2001 or 2000 - 2002; I didnt' realize it was only a 1-2 year run (depending on when they were introduced in 2000 and discontinued in 2001).

There really aren't that many clear shots of the guitar; it looks like either a custom build or a highly modified Fender. Unfortunately there aren't any clear shots of the guitar without him playing it so you can't really see much of the bridge, but it does appear to be some kind of aftermarket one like a Schecter or something like that (like what Andy Summers has on his famous Custom Tele). There never was a glare-free shot of the headstock to see what logo (if any) was on the neck.

Bottom line - unless he still has the guitar who knows what was going on with it - it could have a preamp or it could be some kind of tapped pickup or something like that.
