Hey so I have been playing guitar for about 7 years now. When I started out I bought a Squier Standard Telecaster. Since then, I have bought an ESP Eclipse which is awesome, but I still really love the sound of my Tele. I would really like to upgrade it. I don't know much about whats out there, but I would like to upgrade the neck and replace it with a smoother Fender neck...but I can't seem to find any Fender necks for sale. Also, I would like to upgrade the pickups..Advice??

look up a user named Stratosphere on Ebay tons of fender items. My advice if you want to upgrade from a squire is to get a second hand Mexico or USA Tele. might as well shell out the money on a better guitar then upgrade a mediocre one

My advice is to leave that guitar the way it is, and get yourself a brand new Modern Player Plus Telecaster in Honeyburst. Put some Elixor light strings on it, and an "ashtray" bridge cover, and yer talk'in some serious eye candy. Oh, and by the way I do modifications on those bridge covers. Just give me a shout!

depending what your budget is, if you can its certainly worth thinking about a new guitar. although squier keeps getting better, it is still the bottom rung (though the classic vibes are very good), and doesnt have that all important thing - fender on the headstock.

fender dont make any bad guitars, they just make some better than others. the modern player guitars are chinese, and i have in indonesian signature model. ive played a modern player tele bass, which quality wise was a little bit below my mexican strat, but not by much. its still very good for the money, id take one over a squier. my indonesian fender is easily as good as my mexican one.

second hand bargains can be found, you can sell the squier (unless you have some emotional attatchment to it, i still have my first guitar haha).

If you really love the sound, there's not much point in changing the pickups...

The neck:
I don't quite get what you mean by "smoother". If you don't like the feel in the neck finish, try taking a piece of #1600 or #2000 grit wet sandpaper, soak it and matt the back of the neck with a few gentle strokes. Or to go the other way: refinish the neck with new lacquer.
If it's the neck profile that bothers you, then a new neck is the only chance. First find out the neck you want, then check ebay regularly: plenty of necks to be found there.

Generally: if you have a guitar you like, keep it - mod it if necessary. If you feel you need another, buy one. Don't be fooled by comments on Squier vs. Fender; both make fine instruments. The logo doesn't play the guitar...

BTW, backzappa: Would an ashtray fit on the "Vintage Style 6-Saddle Strings-Thru-Body Hardtail Bridge" on that Modern Player Tele you mentioned?
