Was Keith Richards Tele a 72' Custom. Thats the guitar i've mostly seen him play. i thought it would be kind of cool if Fender came out with a signature one. What do you think the specs would be.
it would probably have a humbucker in the neck position.
thats what i did to my standard tele

I think that it is so funny that everyone associates Keith with a tele. I do recognize that macaber was his mainstay and what he composed a great deal of tunes with, however if you ever saw the stones he practially used a different guitar for every song. Les Paul's for the Chuck Berry/boogie shuffle songs(when he would take the leads), A strat when his rhythm was the focus (brown sugar), and a telecaster as well for about 50% of the others. Maybe this changed in the past 25 years though. If they did come out with a Keith Richards tele with a Duncan antique pickup in the neckI would be the first to thank the good people at fender. I do realize that he went from open G, to open E, to standard, all with capo's in different spots...so that explains for the variation in his onstage guitars.

Still does it. Go see "Shine A Light" or rent it when the DVD comes out. There's more tele than anything else, but he pulls out everything including a 12 string acoustic for "As Tears Go By"

Actually he tunes the guitar to open G and he stated that he takes the E string (6th) off because the E String, which is tune down to G, is just to overpowering, to many G's.
