Well, the only person to really answer that question must be you.

Start with your budget... what is the maximum amount you're willing to pay? Your desired amount..?

Then, go and play as many within that range as you can find. The many variants, with their different Finishes, Fretboards, necks, Pickups, Tuners, Frets, Saddles, colors, etc., all pretty much appeal to someone or some group. So, one man's Best can easily be another man's Worst.

Try to remain unbiased to the 'collective wisdom'.

Generally, quality is better on the American made, but there are many MIM and MIJ Gems out there being overlooked by people who's minds are already set against them.

Once you pick up and play them, the right one for you will shine through.

Pleasant Journey !!

cheers!

Many factors to be considered such as specific model, condition, cosmetics, feel, sound, etc.

Good luck!

if you're not concerned with resale value and have the skills to do so (and if not, there's lots of friendly folks here happy to help) I'd piece one together. You can part together a neck with the features you like with electronics, etc of your own choosing. Just a thought...

As others have mentioned, your budget has a lot to do with it. On the low end, the Squire 50's Tele is a very nice choice, followed by the MIM standard, or something used. American std's are nice and of course then there's custom shop range.

Here is my American Standard that I bought this July. It's a keeper. I just wish the neck was as well finished as my made in China Jaguar.

I picked up an American Special Tele (I think street was $899). I think it's a great value and a solid player. Probably one of the best Tele's I have ever owned.

+1

In terms of value for the money the Am Special is a good choice. $899.99 seems to be the going rate, but with the Fender Instant Holiday Savings coupon you can get $100.00 off the price.

Limited choice of colours, if that is important to you.
