Hi,

I have just became a happy new owner of an old Telecaster.
Bought it from a guy who had it stored in a loft for years. Luckily in a dry environment. The guitar has been modified by his son who passed away some time ago. Respect to the previous owner.. I have played USA Fender Strat Deluxe for a long time in a band and even not being totally interested in the technical aspects, got some experience and can tell a difference between a good and bad guitar, I think.. So when I spotted this guitar, a little light started to blink somewhere deep in my head telling my to ask about it - after a short negotiations, got it. I will not mention the price here.

To the point. The two single coils have been replaced with humbuckers and the original bridge has been replaced with Floyd Rose bridge.. the luthier had to cut out more wood from the body to insert the new parts, and make big cutout at the back to insert the springs..
The neck humbucker seems to be a bass type - dimarzio125dp. weird?

The guitar has got a number on the F plate and a number on the neck's hidden 'forehead' (04 04 1971R) - that got me really excited actually.

The guitar sounds like a dream.. The neck is slightly thinner (by ~2mm than Strat's) what makes it more comfortable to play. Played it for 2 hours, moved back to the Strat and felt like holding a hammer..

So what can you tell me about it, guys - any impressions?

What is the value of such a guitar if sold?

I'd like to transform it back to the original setup. What parts should I use? Would it be reasonable to replace the whole body part?

Regards,

Mis

It would cost more to put that thing back to original condition than it is worth. The mods that have been made to it have destroyed any value it may have had, assuming it is even a real Fender Tele. I would sell it (I wouldn't pay more than $50 for it) and buy a new guitar if you want a Tele.

Well not much value as a vintage guitar but that is a cool piece!

Wow - it looks like it had a Strat-type bridge or a Floyd or something with an inertia block and springs in the back at one time and now it has a Kahler bridge on it.

I think that neck pickup might be a DiMarzio X2N - a very hot, high-output humbucker.

I happy for your purchase. I wouldn't worry too much about value. The bigger question is, "Are you happy with the guitar?" If so, play on.

Its ashame someone decided to hack a tele up like that but to each his own. The body is not worth anything but the neck should be worth something. If it playeds good play it.

this is what I'm planning to do with this guitar. So far it's only a photoshop image.

Not selling it now. It just sounds too good and it's such a pleasure to play it. I have ordered parts to replace the pots, replace the neck humbucker with Bill Lawrence T1, add the scratchplate and replace the switch..

Actually I quite don't understand people saying that this guitar hasn't got an original value.. Honestly it's only a piece at the back that had been removed - I hadn't affected the sound for sure. The body is still the original piece of wood..... and it's 41 years old. The neck is awesome..!

Thanks for your comments!

For the people who can put more ( lots ? ) of money , guitar must be original or not far or mod can be reverse. This not the case.

Guitars with very good tone are easy to find , Original vintage one , no.
