Yeah, without a doubt, whether Tele or Strat, if you aren't one of us who just had to have an American git, the MIMs are the best choice for the money. A player on a budget doesn't have to feel like he's settling on second best.

That's one of the things I like
about Fender... They have
something for everyone in an
affordable price range...

Now Gretsch is seeing the light
with the 5120... Oh yeah Gretsch
is part of the Fender family...

Good move on Fender's part...

MIM Fenders are really very good. When you try one in a shop, you really don't know if it has been set up by the shop , i.e. to get it "just so" before letting players try it. Guitars do "move" after leaving the factory, that is why the adjustments are on the instrument.
Careful setting up can get an MIM close to behaving like a USA model.
I own two MIM (Baja Tele and 50's Esquire) and have set both up. They now perform closely to my USA instruments, viz: '52 Tele and 60th Anni Esquire. For me, the REAL difference is in the MIM's polyester/polyurethane and the USA's CN finishes, but that won't really effect the sound.

The one tele I own that probably plays the best is one I pieced together from ebay and wound up loving. The neck is a Crafted in Japan '52 reissue and the body is a Made in Mexico Standard three tone sunburst. To top it off I grabbed a cheap set of Guitar Fetish 50's style pickups and a vintage fender bridge and there you go. The answer is yes.... what was the question again? Oh, right Mexican teles are great. I especially like the newer models that have the vintage tint but satin finish. Check out the Nashville Power Tele. Great guitar with no real American (or Japanese) equal. Mexican strats are great too. I just picked up the 60's reverse headstock strat and it's my current player. Hasn't left my side since I got it.

I love my Deluxe Nashville Telecaster!
I've owned a USA Tele, and currently own a USA Strat, but the Mexican Tele just plays and feels better to me.
Mine's candy apple red and I always get compliments.
Don't ever underestimate the MIM instruments.

Sure there are technical differences but i think a large part of it (to me at least) is that when you buy a USA guitar its that whole "made in america" thing...aside from that my mex strat is set up right and plays like a dream. The only complaint is that when i got it, the middle pickup was very quiet, poor wire connect. Easily diagnosed and fixed with a GC visit.

I used one for a little recording project - I thought it was a great little guitar.

Just got my MIM Fender tele standard three tone brownburst yesterday and I love it! I haven't tried MIA Fender so I really can't compare. Anyways, whether its an MIM or MIA, Fender guitars are expensive here in the Philippines, also hard to buy since shippment is done quaterly. Can't wait to go back in the US to buy a MIA Fender guits.

A bit unfair imho, have you tried a Melody Maker? Great little guitar for the money, I got one for a very reasonable price. Getting back to the topic, I'm having my Tele set up in a few weeks, I'm looking forward to playing her to suss any differnce. I'll post here with my comments in due course :D

Yes, I think they are great. Both of my Teles are MIM. I don't think it matters much that they were put together a little farther south. They sound just as good as American made to me and are easier of the bank account.
