Hello all. I found a used Telecaster online through Guitar Center's used gear section, and it is a Fender Telecaster 60th Anniversary MIM. The price is $550.00, and I nearly pulled the trigger on purchasing it until I realized it was Mexican made. The title didn't include that it was MIM, so when I did a Google search all that came up was the USA made 60th Anniversary Teles. I thought, "OH MY GOSH WHAT A STEAL!" After a little more research I decided to call the Guitar Center just to make sure. Turns out it's Mexican made. I have nothing against Mexican made Fenders, I just don't want to overpay for this guitar.

Now here's my question: What are the differences between the 60th Anniversary Telecasters MIM, and the Standard Telecasters MIM you can get for $500 brand new?
I'm having trouble finding any specs or information on these 60th Anniversary Teles anywhere, including the Fender website, so is there any difference? Is it worth paying $50 more to get this Tele used over a brand new Standard Tele?
The guitar in question looks just like this one: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-60Th ... 1704820.gc except that it's MIM, not American.

Any input, information, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Further to my pm

2011 was the 60th anniversay of the Telecaster and many tele's produced in 2011 carry the special neck plate.

2006 was the 60th anniversary of Fender and guitars from this year carry at least a special medallion on the headstock some also carry a special neck plate.

Without seeing the link maybe this is the difference. The limited edition blackguard blonde 60th anniversary tele was made in america.

Pics, serial number or link to the guitar would help.

I'll be calling the Guitar Center today to get the serial number and hopefully they'll send me some pics upon request. From the picture on the website it's the Blackguard Blonde body, but the headstock says MIM. That's where I'm getting confused. Once I get some more information ill be posting it

Here is the serial number: MZ6174202

All I could come up with is that it was made in 2006 at the factory in Mexico. Can't find any information on Telecasters in the Blackguard Blonde from 2006 except for American made models. I emailed Consumer Relations at Fender and hopefully they get back to me about it. I'm interested to see what they say.

The serial makes it 2006 as you suggest, so the 60th annversary would be Fender's as opposed to 2011 which was the Tele's 60th. Fender should reply soon give them a few days.

Yea just waiting to hear back. From what it looks like it may be a Baja Tele from 2006. They took the listing down from Guitar Centers website because I have it on layaway until tomorrow. I'm hoping Fender gets back to me before tomorrow afternoon.

Assuming it is a Baja Tele, is $550 the right price to pay, or should I try and haggle it down? If so, what's the right price I should pay?

One has a little "60th" logo badge on the back of the headstock, the other does not. Beyond that, there's no difference.

there is a difference between the 60th aniversary of the telecaster and the 60th aniversary of fender especially if its mexican made firs start with the obvious the 60th aniversary for telecaster is made in america which makes it awesome but the biggest deal is the 60th aniversary telecaster from 2011 has fenders vitage series pickups

Yesterday, I bought a standard telecaster MIM that has the back plate stating it's the 60th Anniversary of telecaster (2011). The store (GC) sold it as new :P Didn't realize it was a 2011 model until this morning.

I am wondering, the poster above stated the 60th anniv of tele's were only made in America. This one indicates it was made in Mexico and carries a serial # of MX10277716.

I am wondering if it is worth what I paid for. It is the MN brown sunburst with maple fret board. It was priced at $450. Is it worth that much for that model especially since it's now nearly 2 yrs old and sold as new (which I have to wonder)?

I have a 2001 60th anniversary MIM Tele. I thought it had ceramic pups. Are you saying it has vintage series pups?
