I may have an opportunity to pick up an Empress for about $800. I've read that these guitars were overpriced from the get go. There's not a whole lot of information out there on them other than the promo rhetoric. I'm seeking out opinions. Is this a good value? Will this guitar hold or gain value? I don't plan on selling it if I buy it. Just play it if I like it, so one could argue that it doesn't matter. However, I still wouldn't want to spend $800 bucks on a guitar that's worth $300. I don't know anyone who would. Thanks in advance for any input.

I hadn't seen the price on a new Telebration Empress model in a while so I just checked a couple of sites. It appears the list price was $1,900 and the MAP price was $1,400. I believe those who were saying it was overpriced compared to the MAP price of an American Standard at $1,000-$1,100.

I would say that $800 is a pretty decent used price on them. They made 500 of them, so I don't think it's going to appreciate in value unless the next hot guitarist plays them exclusively or something like that (think the price of Mustangs and Jaguars after Nirvana hit big with Cobain playing them).
