:( :? :x
I messed up and believe I probably have destroyed the N3 noiseless bridge pickup on my new 2012 American Deluxe ash Tele.... I need help....did I really destroy it? Can I fix it? Can a luthier fix it? or yea man, that pup is a done deal and you truly messed up. AND if the pickup is destroyed....can I just replace that one or must I replace the neck pup as well AND where do i get a new or both pickups as Fender does not offer one as far as I can tell under 'accessories'...they have other pickups but not the new 2012 N3 noiseless AND while I'm at it here, could I just replace the bridge pickup with a totally different pickup and what would you fine folks recommend?

Here's the sad(and perhaps foolish) turn of events..I was doing a final clean and polish to post pics for you all...I noticed what appeared to be plastic or something sticking up around the bridge pickup..unsightly and I thought it was protective covering from the factory as i had to remove plastic off the neck pickup etc...I was sure the pickup being the latest new of the new would be a solid stand alone solid thing.. so I chose to remove it....as I pulled on it...it completly unwind from around the pickup...too late I realized I had removed the casing from around the pickup exposing the fine copper wiring and some very fine copper wires were also pulled out...I was horrified and embarrassed(and still am) however i trust you will be kind to a newbie...needless to say when i switch to the bridge I get nothing but hum and nasty hum in the neck position as well. help with much thanks :!:

I suspect the pickup is trashed - from what I've read the N3s are pretty delicate and at least on the Strats the pickup covers are sealed to the pickups to prevent someone from accidentally damaging the coils. Unfortunately the Tele bridge pickup isn't sealed into a cover like the Strat pickups (or the Tele's neck pickup for that matter).

I suspect you would have to take it back to a dealer or an authorized service center and have them replace it since at this point since they aren't selling N3s as afermarket items.

As to whether this is the time to go for a different pickup - only you can tell if you would prefer something other than an N3.

Here you go. Might want to have someone install them for you.

That sucks.

I think it is big of you to admit it. Hopefully they repair center doesn't make you feel bad. It is pretty safe to say that most if not all people have made a mistake like that where, ya probably should have known better but it took just a bit too long to realize.

If it's any consolation at least it can be fixed and it will look like new when it is done.

My first guitar was a little expensive ($1,000+). Well someone dropped it and needless to say I was mad at the person for touching it without permission ,but I accepted it since things happen and it didn't dent or chip the guitar. So later after playing when I went to put the guitar in it's hardshell case I heard a rattling coming from the body that sounded like a loose screw. I thought it was in the neck and I was like "What the heck is that....?" So I took the neck off thinking I got this I was wrong :X Well I put it back on after finding nothing and still hearing the rattle and what is this? FRET BUZZ?!?!?!? So I threw the intonation off. Now there is a rattle and fret buzz so I panic and run to a local music store thinking I fudged up the neck and get a setup done on it right away. Turns out the rattle was from the volume knob. It had a "detached pin or screw" that pops out when it has too much pressure on in to avoid having it break XD I was 3 days without that guitar and ever second killed me. I don't mess with my guitars set up wise after that I leave that to pro's. The moral of the story is yes mistakes happen when you're new :)

Yup, I do believe you're right...I tried a repair with electrical tape and...nothing from the bridge but hum...and why then isn't the N3 Tele bridge sealed in a cover(you don't have to answer  )...so it will be a replacement trip back to my music authorized dealer store about an hour and a half away...no new Tele for me to play with for x number of weeks...I'm sitting on a pity pot :( ...anyways I'm going to stay with the N3 noiseless pickups. Thanks for the reply. Sure do appreciate it!

Thanks for the great link to ebay...I'll try ebayCanada to see if they have the same product...it makes sense to me to arrive at my authorized dealer with pickups in hand and simply say...put 'em in. Thanks for your time in looking those pickups...up and getting back to me. :)

Sure does suck but on the bright side your reply was nice and made me feel better and it will be fixed and be all brand new all over again and if I'm really lucky...it will come back with extra Tele mojo......

You're right of course..if it's not broken, don't fix it or try to fix it...moral of the story for me is that I've got to leave my fussy hands off of stuff I don't know anything about especially as a newbie...thanks for your tale of woe...I don't feel so bad now.

I think that we've all been where you are at some point with our guitars. It will be fixed and good as new once again!

Butterscotch, thanks, I needed another shot of ecouragement and to hear that all will be well...and all will be well overtime and soon. The pickup is ordered. A luthier is lined up to fix it.

BTW, this Tele had to be ash, maple neck, black pickguard and butterscotch for me...it was and always has been the Tele of my dreams...nothing else would do for me. I consider all Teles beautiful in their own right...it is one fortunate person to own a Tele however for me...absolutely had to be butterscotch blonde.

I take it you have a butterscotch blonde Tele? Tell me where on the lounge I can see pictures of your Tele if you've posted some...I will post photos of mine when she returns all fixed up....can't wait!

Wow, what can I say? it's beautiful and well played and obviously loved. Lucky you to have 'a few'...that is actually more the butterscotch I'm used to than the 2012 I have...think mine just needs some roadwear and some mellow overtime..thanks for that pic!
