The 3 looks 'period correct' and seems to work fine for most, but I've heard a few having intonation problems. Not really sure if it was the bridge saddles or their ability to set it up/have it set up properly?

I guess we can say it is easier to get a perfect intonation if all strings are individual adjustable. But then the purists among us claim that the sound and sustain is better with the old barrels , which are even better if it is made from brass rather than chrome.

I have no problem with my two teles set up with ''chrome-barrels'' - no intonation problems , and great sustain. But I am considering to buy new barrels for at least one of them , just to test it out . Then it's got to be some of the intonation compensated things . I don't know if Fender manufactures those , but I think Wilkinson does. That should be the best from both worlds :D

If set up properly, near perfect intonation can be had with the three barrel type especially if you use the notched brass ones with the angled screw from the Danny Gatton model Tele.

My G&L Blues Boy is set up with six brass saddles and I really like it, although I can't really tell that the material makes any difference. I do think the six saddles are better for correct intonation. Just my opinion.

Kind of odd but on a Tele I prefer barrel saddles and the vintage style ashtray bridge plate, where on Strats Block saddles as I chew up my picking hand on vintage saddles. I started on Tele's as a kid and played nothing but until my mid 20's so their were a lot of tricked out Tele''s on my rack with stacked humbuckers. Yes you will get better intonation using 6 block saddles over three barrels but the difference when properly set up is not that big.I also change all my Barrel saddles to Brass as for me they sound better.
