I would like to mod an American Deluxe out so it is a mix between the American Deluxe, and the '72 Custom.

In short I would like to replace the neck pickup with a humbucker.
I know I could just buy a '72 Custom, but like the looks, and set up of the American Deluxe.

If you go with a full size humbucker you will most likely have to route the body for it, and buy a new Tele Humbucker bridge plate.

You would probably be better off buying a Tele with a humbucker already in it.

Duh, It would help if I had my glasses on wouldn't it?

You would still have to route out the guitar.

Seymour Duncan make a couple of Stacked pickups that would fit without routing the body. I'm building a not so nashville tele with a lil 59 tele in the middle, The neck is still up in the air, I'm going to try a tex-mex strat first, then trade it for a mini humbucker to see which one like best. I may end up with the original neck tele. we'll see. The bridge P.U. is a hot alinco usa tele. This is a work in progress I have 3 cheap pickguards to tweak for each combo. when i decide on the final combo I will have a custom guard made. It's a 3-tone sunburst (tobacco) and will have gold hardware with a 3-saddle bridge (compensated) I plan on the lead pickup to be used with either the neck or the middle or alone definely not a strat wannabe.

One Last thought If you think you want the full size or even the mini humbucker consider picking up a body like mighty mite off of ebay 125-150
Your american body is worth more than that. If you keep it stock.
