The wife and I decided to spend the day in Manhattan, as we do a couple times a year. This trip I made it a point to visit "Music Row" on 48th Street. Music Row is not what it used to be, once the home of the world famous Manny's Music where Hendrix used to buy his Strats, and other fine music shops. Seems Sam Ash bought them all up, or ran them out of business. The only other survivor is Rudy's Music, and that's where I got into trouble....

I've been eying up the new American Standard Telecaster with the natural ash body and rosewood neck, every shop I hit always has the maple neck model, but never the rosewood neck.....until yesterday when I walked into Rudy's Music.....

It's now home with me, and today it'll get a clean up, string change, a slight tweaking, and a lot of play time.......

Today I pulled the film off the pick guard, tweaked the neck, re-strung her with Ernie Ball Classic Rock & Roll Slinky's (10 to 46) and got some quality play time with her, I just hope my Strat doesn't get jealous......

Nice guitar...and if you had to get in trouble in NY, this is certainly the way to go :mrgreen:

I was there about two years ago and did the same thing, and yeah it isn't what it used to be...but I managed to stay out of trouble there...not that there wasn't some fine guitars, just nothing that "Talked" to me.

Pretty Pretty guitar!! Its not just New York seems like lots of the Mom and Pop music stores are really struggling and becoming more and more rare. Congrats on your find!

@TonyMig,

I'm an absolute rank beginner, and really have no business owning two such nice guitars !

Although I gotta tell you that it's VERY motivating to have these guitars when the rigors and frustrations of practice set in - I am working hard to become worthy of such fine instruments !

If you read my post - viewtopic.php?f=7&t=75724 , you'll see I kinda lucked out with the Tele.

But I got to tell you I love them both for different reasons.

I'm practicing about 4 hrs. daily and I split my time equally between them. My feeling is the Strat is a little more demanding, while the Tele is more 'forgiving' and slightly less inhibited... But what do I know...

Best of luck with your combo !

cheers!

Well that pretty much applies to me as well, I have a love of guitars, but very little in the way of ability to play the damn things.....

I first started as a teenager, but didn't progress very far back then. Picked it up again when I turned 40, 15 years later what little I can play comes courtesy of tablature since I can't read a note of sheet music. I don't let that stand in the way of enjoying the instrument.
My next move will be to replace this little Blues Jr. with either a '65 DeLux Reverb Reissue, or a Vibrolux Reverb.....

@TonyMig

I wish I'd taken the leap 15 years ago... in fact, it'll be just 1 month tomorrow.

I have a LOT of catching up to do.

In the past month, I have learned most of my chords, have mastered 4 scales, working on strumming and learning to sight read.

Fortunately, I can and do devote about 4 hours/day. I p[lay as long as my fingers allow - now about 90 minutes twice a day and then the rest is spent learning to read music.

I haven't learned tabulature or started playing songs because I want to develop a well-rounded approach.

I know these things will come later and that I'm just in the 'grunt' stage, slogging it out !

Expect that my growth will not be linear, and once through this initial stage, I am looking forward to progressing more quickly.

cheers!

That's a beautiful guitar congrats on your purchace. Is it a 2012 Standard Tele with the belly cut in the back or an older one from a previous year?

It's a 2012 model with the belly contour, and trust me, this portly man appreciates having that slice of wood removed...... :wink:

Here's a shot of me test driving it at Rudy's Music Shop before the purchase....
