Contact Gruhn Guitars in Nashville. He has been appraising and selling old guitars for years, and writes books on them that are considered definitive. They can get you into the ballpark, but probably can't be too exact on worth without inspecting it themselves.

This!

Since it is possibly worth a five figure sum, getting a reliable appraisal is a must.
Here are a few GBase examples of what dealers are asking. Ignore the reissue sales...

8k? On that link above there's a 63 custom tele with case, few Nick's on it for 21k! The op's may not be a custom, but sounds in better condition, gotta be worth more then 8k going by that?

a guitar like that is too old, and too valuable to trust an online guess or appraisal, depending on where you are located, I'd take it to either Mandolin Brothers in New York, or Gruhn in Nashville, have it looked at in person by a leading expert, know for sure what the true value is. You may not get exactly what they tell you it's worth, but you won't get taken to the cleaners either......

Whatever you do, don't take it to a Guitar Center or Sam Ash store, take it to an expert appraiser.....
