A little more than a year ago I bought an awesome American Deluxe Telecaster. Almost immediately I noticed that it made a buzzing sound but stopped whenever I touched the knobs. Anyway, I tried to play through it because I love the guitar. Finally, I brought the guitar back to the Guitar Center where the tech said it was most likely a grounding issue and had me bring the guitar to an authorized Fender tech 40 miles away. He's had the guitar for three weeks and has been working with Fender to diagnose the problem. So far he's replaced the knobs and the rear pick up. The noise continued. Working again with Fender he's now replacing the front pick up and said he's hoping to get the schematics from Fender and may have to rewire the guitar. I love the guitar and can't wait to get it back without the buzzing noise, but I when I hear that someone has to replace the pickups and rewire a brand new guitar, I am wondering if I should be concerned?

I would be more concerned why the tech has had it for 3 weeks to fix a grounding issue. Replace the p/u,s and rewire it take about a couple hrs. But Ive never had warrenty work done so I could be way off.

Replacing the pickups due to a grounding issue? WTF? And waiting on Fender to send a schematic for the guitar to a Fender Authorized Repair Facility? Something smells like day old tuna here!

I ask them to put it back to original and send back to you and find another place to do your tech work.

Well, I can honestly say that working with Fender on warranty repairs can be a real PITA. The luthier that I work part time for is a Fender Authorized Repair person for both regular production guitars and the Custom Shop. In the time I have been with him, he has had several guitars in for warranty repair and getting parts and other information from Fender can be time consuming. Just getting parts from them can take a week or more. There is a lot of paperwork involved too. Is three weeks too long? Without knowing the entire story I can't say, but it doesn't surprise me.

I've been waiting 3 weeks to have a dead pickup replaced. Seems par for the course.

Thanks to everyone for your input. It's greatly appreciated. I guess I'll just hang tight and be patient. Too bad because I love the guitar.

These guy are NOT a tech .They do not learn electronic. Electronic tech ( electronic enginer) don't work like that .

These guys who work on your guitar are only "part replacement people" they work like it is lotto.

I will not be surprise if they send you another guitar.......

I wouldn't worry too much i had a warranty issue with Fender and though it did take a bit of time they really were interested in protecting their brand and making sure i was happy in the end. I ended up with a new guitar (long story) but over all I was happy with everything, as far as warranty i deal with these types of issues in another industry and for a large company as well and there is paper work that has to be done right then there is an approval process and all this takes time i guess because they want to make sure parts are not flying out the door with no control, that's just were i work no idea about Fender but i imagine it is similar, just be patient and all will be well

The above is ludicrous!

All I'm reading is, you are dealing with hack after hack after hack! ANY COMPETENT tech would have diagnosed this problem within a matter of minutes and surely would NOT need a "schematic" for anything. Replacing the knobs? Unbelievable! One aspect is true though and I can tell you this from first hand experience: Fender does require harassing paperwork be completed by the tech for warranty claims, they require the defective part to be returned to them first (at the tech's expense) for evaluation and aren't all that quick to send out replacement parts. So even if you eventually do hook up with a competent tech, the paperwork alone is the tech's time and money lost and to add insult to injury, the dollar amount they are ultimately reimbursed from Fender (premising they do authorize warranty work) is next to nothing compared to any comparable customer paying job. Put all this together and there is no motivation on the tech's part to expedite any Fender warranty issue.
