I have a 50th anniversary american telecaster from 1996(N6). Im a bit confused about the guitar because ive read on the internet that these guitars come with gold plated hardware, however mine is in chrome.

Is it the same thing?

From the 1996 Fender Frontline:

"Boasting gold plated hardware, highly figured maple veneer tops and backs, and vintage pickups and electronics, the American Standard 50th Anniversary Limited Editions pay fitting tribute to those instruments that have played a pivotal role in the last five decades of music.
Each comes with an orange-plush-lined black tolex vintage case, and includes a Fender 50th Anniversary logo and limited edition serial numbering stamped on the neck mounting plate."

BobyBlaby - every production-line Fender made in the USA and Mexico in 1996 had that "50th Anniversary of Fender" medallion on the back of the headstock. So what you have is an American Standard Tele built in 1996, not the special "50th Anniversary of Fender" Tele that had the maple top/back and gold hardware.
