:x For the past 15 years or so I have been trying to get Fender to build an Andy Summers Telecaster. He’s been a big influence on my playing and I’ve always wanted one.
I’ve seen Fender create some signature models that are nothing really special. The Robert Cray Strat comes to mind (a great guitar, but not really note worthy). On the other hand I own an Eric Clapton Strat and it is very different than a regular Strat, and I own three different Strats. So I have much respect for Fender and their Signature series guitars. I figured that Fender should make an Andy Summers Telecaster because it is such a unique guitar.
I had e-mailed, called and written letters to Fender every so often, but it all fell on deaf ears. Fender has always been a company that listened to the players. I’ve been a fan of Fender guitars for over 20 years. I’ve lost count of the number of Telecasters and Stratocasters that I have owned.
Now after a long silence Fender finally got together with Andy Summers and built the Andy Summers Tribute Telecaster. Thank you, Fender.
I was elated by the prospect of getting my own Andy Summers Tele until I saw the price, $10,000 ($15,000 list price). Ugh! I’ll never be able afford one. Well since I can’t buy one I figured that I’ll just build one. It will be done on the 26th of this month.
Even though I’m having my own built I’m hoping that Fender will do what they did with Buddy Waters Telecaster (which I own and love). My hope is that Fender produces a Mexican made Andy Summers Telecaster so that the rest of the world can have one. I’d be the first to order one.
Start a campaign!

I think it's just a MIJ tele with binding, gibson PAF in the neck position and some crazy preamp installed with an extra switch and knob. I have an old issue of guitar player in a box some where that describes how everything works. You might want to start there as a reference point.

I got to see the Police in Philly last week. The best rock show I've ever been to. It was so good to see those guys back together again. I hope they will put out a new album after the tour. Their level of musicianship is hard to come by these days. Especially with crap like American Idol taking up so much space.

:D I'm going to see The Police in New York in August. I was on youtube, search: "The Police 2007" at their first live rehersal and they didn't sound very good, but they were having fun. They didn't take it very seriously and you could see them working out their fogging memories. It was great to watch. I then saw part of a show from last month and they were tight as all get out.

I grew up loving their music and got my first MJP '62 tele custom because of Andy Summers. I miss that guitar. I'm in the process of building a copy of Andy's guitar. Only 3 more days till it's ready. Granted it won't be exact and it doesn't need to be. I'm looking for a certain vibe and sound. I believe that I'll have it. I'll let you know how it plays.

It seems like every player is looking to the "Holy Grail" of guitars. "That Perfect One." Truth is it's up to the player and that changes from time to time and guitar and guitar.

I owned an '87 Strat Plus. Loved it. Then for very foolish reasons I sold it.

I later got a Clapton Strat to replace it. I still wasn't happy so I built a copy of a '62 Strat from parts. Down the road I found other guitars that I wanted. Then it was more teles. Finally I found a 50th Aniv. Strat. I love that guiter. Sounds great, but I was still jonesing for a 3-color-sunburst Tele w/ white binding. All the MJP are owned or bought very rapidly on ebay. A USA model costs $1400. Screw that. I'm building my own. Cost: Under $1200 and it's the set up that I want anyway.

I know a great luthear in Baltimore, MD. Phil Jacoby (philtone guitars). He is usually very busy, but I have trusted him with my guitars for the past 7 years. Good attention to detail and very smart. Super nice guy.

My first telecaster was a 1983 sunburst. Of course I got it because of Andy Summers. I loved that guitar. I never took lessons but instead jammed to my police albums, making up the "fourth part" to their trio. I was able to create tasteful parts and phrases using boss effects. That part of my rig has grown to a rather large stereo pedal board.

I now have two black 1996, 50 year anniversary tele's. They are identical and I love them both. I put Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders on them and they have a rich round tone.

Yes, I want a Telecaster andy summers too, i can pay for a good american artist series but not the high price of a custom shop. Also i want a NOS not a Reliced relic, i want to age with my instrument!!!!

I built my own andy summers tele but i think that fender will do it better. that telecaster will need 1) the out-of-phase switches 2) the preamp overdrive 3) the brass 70's schaller brass bridge, 4) the schaller tuners 5)Humbucker on NECK and Tele single on BRIDGE) 6) telecaster custom 62 body and tele 50's maple neck.

My telecaster doesn't have the preamp mod and the rear access of body cause it's too invasive for a guitar and the brass bridge it's almost imposible to find, PLEASE where i can find that bridge!!!!.

Now Fender release the Joe Strummer Tele, Personally i think that there's more guitar players that want to own a andy summers tele than a joe strummer tele .

PLEASE FENDER, GIVE US A ANDY SUMMERS TELE, I WANT 3 OF THOSE !!!!

That's not a bad idea. They did it with the Jerry Donahue Teles

come on dude you can't diss Joe Strummer!!! The Police and The Clash were both very similar in musical style. They both did reggae/ska with punky undertones. But I do agree they should make a mexican version the Andy Summers tele.
