I think for long term storage where you won't be playing your guitar for an extended period of time, a hard case is the best. If you play your guitar regularly, a wall hanger or stand will do fine. If you have little kids or dumb*ss friends though, I would store it in a case. I also prefer stands over the wall hangers because they aren't as permanent, and you have more flexibility, than with a wall hanger.

I don't like wall hangers. If you don't play the guitar for 2 days, there's already lots of dust on it. The stands are only good for the stage, you might knock it over accidently at home.
So I think the safest way is the hardcase! 8)

THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES, I WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP IT IN THE CASE. FOR SOME REASON IT BOTHERS ME TO OPEN IT UP EVERYTIME I WANT TO PLAY IT. I HAVE A ACOUSTIC ON A STAND THAT I ALWAYS REACH FOR BUT, ITS NOT THE SAME. I WOULD RATHER KEEP THE TELE SAFE AND SOUND. THANKS AGAIN.

My tele (and strat and SG and LP and bass and acoustics) all sit on stands so I can pick them up and play whenever I want. You need to wipe them down after you play, so that takes care of any daily dust issues.

I keep mine in the cases when they're not being played or about to be played.

I have two hercules wall hangers, the auto grab system. I only use them when jamming here, the rest of the time my babies are in their hard cases.

I have 11 babies and the cases take up a lot of room so I got 2 stands that hold 7 each so I can grab what ever I want easily. As far as the dust; well I don't dust them daily but I do wipe off the strings and metal work after each play. I use metal polish the metal work about every other string change. I use Pledge furniture polish (with carnuba; never silicone)on the finish and Pledge Revitalizing oil (made with orange oil) on the rosewood/ebony fretboard as applicable.

Mine tend to stay cased, but I usually leave one out on a stand or in a corner, to pick up or just to look at. I have a couple beaters that are just about indestructible and a lot of times that's what gets left out.

i think a wall hanger would put alot of stress on the neck and i use hardcases. my bass has a gig bag because no case would fit it...the hardcase has saved my guitar more than a few times. especially when your angry and u just slam the case into a car or out of a room. my bass is thrashed cuz of the gig bag........definately hard case

I keep all of mine on stands so they are readily accessible, but then again my kids are all grown and I have a dedicated music room :D

As far as hanging stress...these things don't weigh that much and there are typically 4-bolts attaching the neck to the body and they are typically hung for who knows how long in guitar stores - at least every one I've ever been in.
