Hi stratele52, I meant in comparison to a Telecaster. I agree that both are about is comfortable as it gets to play.

It would be nice if someone on the forum could recommend the "right" guitar for you but there are just too many variables. The neck size and shape I have a standard MIM tele that I really like. I don't really notice problems with hum but I think that the wiring in your house and the other electronics in the room can make a difference. According to others on the forum improperly grounded circuits and no neon or fluorescent lights increase hum. If you acoustic is too loud when you play lightly you will need to use headphones. I live in a small house and my family would prefer not to hear the practice sessions so I use headphones when they are home. But when they are gone...well lets just say that I know my house resonates sympathetically at 440Hz.

The tele isn't just for country. The controls on the guitar and especial the amp make a serious difference in the sounds you get. You technique and attack also are very important. Chickin' pickin' sounds country no matter what guitar you are playing.

You have done you homework by checking out the models and specs on line. Like everybody else has recommended try as many as you can, but I would also say take your time. When you find the right one you will know.

Thanks all. I just checked the GC website and none of the local GC have any Telecasters in the $300-$700 price range (other than Standard and Thinline). I'd really like to check out the Blackout and Nashville. We'll see what all that means.

I did it. Last night, after trying out an Epiphone Les Paul, Stratocaster and Telecaster, I settled on a Nashville Delux Tele. Compared to my acoustic, they all felt much more comfortable to play, but the Epiphone was the least comfortable of the three. I also tried out a Standard Tele, but the Nashville was the more comfortable of the two. I stayed up until 1:00am playing until my fingers hurt too much to go on.

I guess what I didn't expect was for GC to be so sneaky. What clearly seemed like a $150 coupon ($150 off if you spend over $749), turned out to be worth $95 (they split the items up so I got $75 off the guitar (for being over $349), but only $20 off the amp because it was less than $349, but over $99), and the "free gig bag" noted on the tag for the guitar disappeared with the coupon as well, making the coupon worth $60. Does everyone wake up at 3am after buying a guitar with a feeling of being ripped off, or is it just me?

Still I love the thing.... I'll get over the rest.

It's true s Strats neck make it like there isn't even a challenge playing lol Don't get me wrong playing a difficult song is still hard and still takes talent ,but on a Strat you'll have easier time. And judging by your music taste alone I'd say a Strat is for you. Again like everyone said though you need to try guitars out for awhile and sit on it unless you find "the one" ;D With that said you haven't been playing for awhile is kinda what you said in your OP? People may disagree with me on this ,but if you get a Strat you will spoils your hands because it's so easy to play you will have a hard time gaining finger strength. I learned on a borrowed Tele then went to a Strat and was like "Wow this is easy...to easy...and I love the Tele sound and feel of the Tele neck...." then I tired an acoustic and my hands did not adjust well lol I had trouble with bar chords and kept getting fret buzz. Needless to say this was years ago. The Tele won my heart and I'm sticking with it. But you need to do what is right for you and your hands :D After typing this I see you settled on a Nashville Deluxe Tele well WELCOME TO THE TELE CLUB !!!!!! :D

Thanks. My favorite pickup settings are the middle and the bridge. I am spending about 45 minutes to an hour a night on scales and working on learning to play different songs. All great fun. One tiny drop of super glue seems to be holding the knob on the switch, but I still switch settings too often (part of the acoustic legacy, I suppose).

Your choice of music is similar to mine, and you are overthinking things too much my friend! A Tele is very versatile. I use my Highway 1 (Butterscotch Blond with maple neck/board) Tele when I jam with my buddies, and we play everything from Slayer to Molly Hatchet to the Smiths to Iggy Pop to the Beatles, all on a Tele with a Fender GDec 30. The drums are digital so not too loud. Do not get the 7.25" radius board, I would go 9 at least. I had a mesican Surf Green/ tinted Maple strat with Vintage frets and that radius, and fretted out on whole step+ bends until adjustments were made. You don't have to go as flat as a Jackson, but I ould go at least 9" for a good balance of chords and upper register stuff as well. Please chime in other people for extra insight!
