I think it's actually very nice! A mohagany body and Filtertron pickups.. my guess is it sounds beautiful if not at least entirely different from a standard Telecaster.

Some of the variances like pups and benders I can appreciate, but if you take away the bridge plate and solid body, why buy it? It's no longer a Tele. They should give it a totally different name.

I agree. I'd say this guitar is much more akin to a Gretsch. They know it'll sell because the Tele shape is so familiar and homely to people. Still a nice guitar, though.

that MIJ model is a loose interpretation of a custom shop 1 off build somebody at fender done just because he could. theres a video on youtube about it, i think its called the fender white penguin or something like that, a take on gretsch white falcon.

to say a tele cant have a semi hollow body is a bit extreme. thinlines have been around for 40 years, i think its time to accept them  the white penguin tele or whatever its called its actually totally hollow, archtop style. if i remember correctly.

Fender took over Gretsch in the early-to-mid 2000's, so I guess they've they rights to it.
It looks as though the tele shares features from each of the Gretch White Penguin AND White Falcon.

Each of these guitars are right around $2600. All are MIJ. Of the three, I think the White Penguin has some serious charm going for it. Obviously the White Falcon is immortal in its own right.

I dunno, but if I'm going to spend $2600 for a tele, I'll would just look into a USA made custom shop.

As a comparison, here's Paul Waller's Custom Shop "White Chicken!" :)

I'm right with you. Ever try to sell a used MIJ anything? The value falls through the floor. I've had and sold quite a few guitars and I almost always take a beating on the used MIJ's unless I get a super deal when I buy it. If you're going to keep it for life, it doesn't matter.

It sort of looks like a thinline "LA Caronita", which is my "GAS of the week" guitar. That said I would go without the matching headstock/neck, the neck binding and the inlays, and the vintage style bridge.

To me it looks like something Elvis would've played. That's not a good thing, imo.
